Official Offseason Thread

Escobar is a fine player, but it doesn't look like he's played substantial innings in the outfield since 2015 (and none at all since 2017).

Not so sure the DBacks will be rebuilding, at least this off-season anyways. They won 85 games this year and still have a lot of nice pieces that are controllable. Their rotation could be quite nice in 2020 with Ray, Weaver, Gallen, and Walker. And obviously they have some money freed up with Greinke and Goldy out the door in the last 10 months.

On the open market nobody pays him that much. I can’t believe AA agreed to take on all the money.

for one year? i think someone may have done it. or close to it, anyway.
teams are more willing to shell out big cash on short deals.

Kiley was asked what it would take for AA to get Betts if Boston does decide to move him. This was the response:

"I bet it would be something like:

pick 2 of anyone under 25 other than Acuna, Albies, Soroka, Waters, Pache

pick 1-2 of guys in the minors outside of the top 12-15"

The Sawx are gonna have to get really creative this offseason if they want to get under the Luxury Tax threshold once again. It would take a lot of shuffling.

Wash heading back to Padres for 2nd interview. I wish him well but really don't want him to leave. The impact he's had on Ozzie, Swanson and other IFers is amazing. He'd be a good replacement for Snits.

Man, I hope he doesn't get it. I think he is HUGE for Ozzie, and I think Ozzie still needs him for another year at least.

I'm just speculating at this point. But the D'backs are in a position to begin a rebuild (or at least a restructuring) after trading Greinke and Escobar isn't the kind of player you want to keep around for a process like that. Of course you'd think the same thing about guys like Mitch Haniger or Whit Merrifield, but hey, dumb organizations are gonna dumb.

Agreed they should trade him, not sure what a possible trade package would even look like from our side.

Selfishly I want Wash here. He's been a great addition to the coaching staff. However, I hope he gets the job in San Diego. He deserves it.

I'd do Inciarte, Wright and Weigel.

I'd do something like this, throw in Riley too. That's my maximum offer but AA hasnt done anything like this as GM. There's still plenty of creative ways to improve the offense without doing something stupid like a Betts trade.

I'm not giving up Riley. He needs a winter of working with Chipper. That kind of power just doesn't come around often. He only needs to learn what the strikezone is.
