Keep seeing different things about us making a huge dumb trade for Betts.
Like Pache +!Mueller + Wright.
Seems absurd to me.
Thoughts ?

Just my opinion: That package would be better served with the 18 years of potential to Braves than 1 year of Betts. Also, if Braves were willing to and in position to pay $30M to any player why not someone like Cole, Strasburg or Rendon?

Any chance Grandal sign a 2 year deal for around 35 million?

2/40 might be realistic if Grandal truly prefers high AAV over longer deals with more guaranteed cash.

Having said that, AA just gave 3 years to a BP arm in his 30s, so all my talk about him not giving a catcher 3-4 years is probably complete garbage at this point. The Will Smith deal is so completely out of character compared to everything AA has done with the Braves that I have no idea what types of moves he may make.

Moose is a massive downgrade.

Maybe. But if the Smith signing is a sign of increased payroll and pushing a few chips in, wouldn't Moose for 2/$20 million and Grandal for 2/$40 million make more sense than Donaldson for 3/$75 million???

Take two legitimate shots at it while you still control Freddie. If you have to start another rebuild at that point (2022), you could do it really quickly - all that money will come off the books and Soroka and Fried would have two years of control left if you were looking to cash them in.

I would have bet any amount of anything the Braves would never give up a draft pick to sign a BP arm to a 3 year deal...and I would have lost.

This goes completely against AA's prior MO, so we can now give up trying top predict what he's going to do. I don't even think our $130M projection for the opening day payroll is necessarily correct anymore.

Buckle up I guess...

For real. I guess we didn't have the payroll flexibility last year, but on paper, Kimbrel sure as hell made a lot more sense last year than Smith does this year.

I think smith is way better than KK. I like smith and I think his delivery is easy and not max effort. He will probably be effective the whole contract.

I am still just worried we are getting pitching and then going cheap on hitting.

Sign Rendon
Pache start season at CF, Acuna RF, Duvall/Markakis/Riley platoon LF until Waters is ready

Would leave C as the weakness and SP a question mark but would have a young legit offensive and defensive team with assets to trade for your catcher and SP without it hurting too much with future. Idk.

What's the projection on Rendon for AAV? I'm wondering if that's the gameplan here.

I'd have to imagine he's looking for close to 250 million over 8 years with multiple Opt outs. I'm guessing a minimum of 30 million in AAV.

Enscheff you have any idea how much money we should have left for the rest of the offseason?

Currently sitting right at $100M with holes at C, 3B and SP.

Either payroll is going way up, or the Smith signing just forced the Braves to shop in the bargain bin to fill a couple holes.

I'm not saying I make the trade if I'm GM but a chance to watch Betts, Albies, Acuna and Freddie on the same field would unreal.

For a year, sure, then our farm is wrecked, and our window is just about closed going forward. No thanks. Given not a good chance we'd pay Mookie 300+ mil.
