Official Offseason Thread

Well this is insightful. Looks like our prospects are safe, for now. Who are our free agent options at third now, Rendon and Donaldson? Anyone else?

The Braves being out on Bryant makes absolutely zero sense. They may be out on him at the current asking price, but they can't be out on him altogether.

Defining an "impact bat" as 125+ wRC+, here are the MLB players who reached that mark or higher last year in 400+ PAs while playing 3B or the OF:

https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/s...ayers=&filter=wRC+|gt|125,PA|gt|400&sort=16,1

Of those 29 players, only 7 are potentially available (defined as being rumored even once):

Rendon (huge $$)
Pederson (will require a RHH platoon partner)
Betts (will earn $30M)
Turner (if the Dodgers sign Rendon)
JD (less huge $$)
Bryant (~$50M surplus value)
Blackmon (huge R/H splits)

I suppose we can throw Braun in there since the Brewers will potentially do anything, but there just aren't many "impact bats" available.

We have been focusing on RHH, but simply moving Acuna behind Freeman makes it entirely possible to acquire a LHH as the impact bat.

Logically, the best options are JD and Bryant, and nobody else is even particularly close.

Like some of y’all have already said, if AA is gonna get his bat via the FA route then only JD and Rendon fit. AA checked in on Rendon but the way he’s been spending he should be able to get him if they think he’s the missing piece. I’d rather just pay the extra 5-7 million a year for Rendon vs JD.

Good signing for them. Didi allows them to use Kingery in a more stable role and has real upside potential on a pillow contract.

He’s going to play short so he can re-enter the market again next year as a ss. Kind of makes you wonder what they do with Segura now? Does he shift to third or second, or do they move him in a deal?

I think its just three but I can be bad about that. Should have slightly more than 2 years of service time.

Didn't quite realize his defense graded out so well.

I just checked on spotrac, he has 4 years left. Next winter is when he may get moved if he doesnt sign an extension.

One less bidder for Donaldson, but still going to be surprised if AA plays on the same level as Washington and Texas.

So we essentially have Rendon and Donaldson for Atlanta, Texas and Washington.

My guess is Rendon ends up in Texas bc of his Rice connection. Then who the hell knows what happens with Donaldson. Really hope we’re not left standing without a chair when the music stops.

Gausman really made out: $9m (with potential for $10m) off a down year, and he moves to a pitchers’ park that should help pad his 2020 performance.
Yeah. I thought he was a good buy low candidate (and on a 1 yr deal, there is no downside).

I just question what the upside is for SF on a 1 yr deal if he rebounds. I guess maybe trade him for a 40 FV guy in July?

I have to think they pushed hard for a club option.
