The Coronavirus, not the beer

This was an entertaining read: Link

Interesting read.

As it turns out we are running a pretty interesting controlled experiment at the moment. The United States has reopened without meeting many of the criteria set by the White House itself.

We have a peer group of countries in Europe (Italy, Spain, Germany, France and the UK) that put off reopening until the virus' reproductive rate was brought to a much lower level. And at least in some cases they are implementing more comprehensive programs to test and trace.

The combined population of Italy, Spain, Germany, France and the UK is about the same as the United States. Right now they have suffered significantly more COVID deaths than we have. I am pretty confident the situation will be reversed by the end of this year.

We can also compare economic outcomes by year end.

Right now Italy, Spain, Germany, France and the UK are at 136,000 deaths. The United States is at 100,000.

By the end of September, we will have overtaken them. Easily.

And by and large this will reflect policy choices we are making. In some cases policy choices we are stumbling into without thinking much about them.

Berlin's theatres are un-installing seats to allow socially-distanced viewing...

Deaths per million:
US 309
Spain 580
France 438
UK 552
Germany 102

Wouldn't this be the most accurate way to compare?

Yes. Those countries come closest to being our peer group. Together they have the same population we have. So far they have suffered 135,000 COVID deaths to our 100,000. I think we are going to be well above them by the end of the year.

Edit: The 135,000 includes Italy. Combined, Italy, Spain, France, the UK and Germany have the same population we do.

No.

That does not adequately blame the orange man, and certainly doesn't adequately describe our inferior healthcare system

Perhaps this will

............................................................

In 2017, Trump killed an OSHA rule to prepare health care providers

for "an airborne infectious disease pandemic." Leaving us with 100,000

deaths and NO federal regulations to protect healthcare workers.

If only HRC had won, then Cuomo would not have forced covid positive patients in nursing homes, which happen to make up half our deaths.

If only!

What is trolling on social media?

Trolling is defined as creating discord on the Internet by starting quarrels

or upsetting people by posting inflammatory or off-topic messages in an

online community. Basically, a social media troll is someone who purposely

says something controversial in order to get a rise out of other users.

Yeah but... the man throws a great press conference. Such leadership!

New York’s nursing homes weren’t allowed to challenge a controversial order to admit patients with the coronavirus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday — even though it’s been blamed for spreading the deadly disease among residents.

“They don’t have a right to object. That is the rule and that is the regulation and they have to comply with that,” Cuomo said during his daily briefing in Albany.
