Around the League 2020 Edition

Not sure why all that doesn't actually make them MORE likely to sign Springer. With Springer in CF and Nimmo in LF, Smith, Rosario, and a throw-in gets them Lindor with Gimenez sliding over to 2B. Davis shares time with McNeil at 3B and Nimmo in LF for now. If Springer's defense declines after 2 years, they could slide him to LF once Crow-Armstrong is ready. Pay Springer, Lindor, McCann, and Conforto, and add guys like Odorizzi/Paxton/Hamels to round out the rotation rather than spending big on Bauer.

I see where you are going. But not sure that package is what the Indians are looking for to give up Lindor for. Rosario took a major step backward last year, was only worth 0.1 WAR. Dom Smith broke out with the bat last year, but is 25 and already a defensive liability.

Not saying that's a package they'd like, but that's pretty *amn good considering how badly they screwed themselves by waiting until now to trade Lindor.

As for Smith's defense, you're overstating things quite a bit. He's not bad at 1B (certainly better than Alonso), and would likely split time between there and DH - I realize he PLAYS in LF some when there's no DH, but teams that would be interested in trading for him aren't likely going to use him in the OF. If Cleveland is looking for young OF bats that can play defense, they'd probably be looking for them as part of the return in a Ramirez deal or Pitcher trade (not to mention they've got Nolan Jones that would likely move to an OF corner if they didn't trade Ramirez and they had Smith at 1B). I'd fight to keep Gimenez instead of Rosario if I were the Mutts, but if you're trading for Lindor with the intent to extend/keep him that wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me - if Rosario wasn't playing well enough to hold down 2B this year they could always play McNeil there with Davis at 3B. Mauricio would probably be ready to take over 2B in 2022.

Seen the Blue Jays mentioned for Springer too but with the DH off the table this year, that hurts the Mets alot. They have alot of bodies already for the outfield, Springer only adds to that.

They seem to have the extra players plus prospects plus cash to get a Lindor deal done. But their rotation is the biggest concern, with Thor out til midseason, they need 2-3 starters. Bauer and Springer do seem like their top 2 targets, and they're after McCann not Realmuto for catcher. Will be interesting what they do.

I do wonder what/how much Cleveland wants for Lindor. It cost the Dodgers, Verdugo/Downs/Wong and thats with taking on Price's contract. Probably/maybe something like Baty, Smith, and Gimenez with the intent you pay Lindor.

Really has to be Bauer or bust for the Mets, but who is really going to outbid them and their new owner?

Bauer has said he will do 1 year deals lol, but yeah, probably no one. Dodgers i could see in on Bauer.

i think if he's truly interested in 1-year deals (doubtful), you'll see a lot of the bigger money teams who are smart orgs be in on him. i think the Dodgers definitely would be if it's one year. i just don't see them going multiple years on him.

Yeah if he's doing 1 year deals, then all bets are off. If he wants a long-term deal, Mets are probably favorites there.

Rockies supposedly looking to get the Mutts involved in Arenado talks. Would be an interesting discussion if Arenado agrees to waive his opt-out.

Mutts could send what's left of Cano's contract back ($48 million), J. D. Davis, and Brett Baty. Davis probably plays 3B in Colorado in 2021 and moves to LF in 2022 when Baty comes up, Cano becomes their DH in 2022 if he's not released, and the Rockies can then extend Story. The Mutts fix 3B with Arenado hitting between McNeil and Conforto, and still get one of Bauer or Springer.

Really hate to admit it, but Springer/McNeil/Arenado/Conforto/Alonso/Smith (if there's a DH)/McCann/Nimmo/SS is probably as dangerous as it gets.

Now, who was that that said they weren't anything to worry about?

Harper, Hoskin. JTR and cutch with Nola and wheeler was supposed to be unstoppable. Yet look where they are. I am all about the Mets getting big contracts in exchange for young talent.

The Phillies had two decent SPs and NO bullpen - unfortunately that wouldn't be the case if the Mutts were able to pull these things off.

The "other" New York front office appears to have devolved and returned to the big spending days of old. With all of the RH bats - AND NO SS - in their lineup, why are they so dead-set on paying LeMaiheu $25 million a year to be a 1B or utility guy? Spend the same $25 million on Brantley AND Gregorius and move Gleyber back to 2B where he belongs. Alternate Judge and Stanton between DH and RF to try to keep them healthy.

I loved seeing these headlines "Rockies looking to get Mets involved in Arenado". They publicly trying to convince the Mets to take him off their hands?

They took a gamble on Stanton a few years ago and obviously that has turned out horribly. But they still spend smart, and are among the top teams in player development along with the Dodgers.

They desperately want to re-sign LeMaiheu because he was the heart and soul of the team the past two years.

But overall, it doesn't appear the Yankees have a lot of cash to spend this off season. They took a bigger loss than most teams.

i'm not worried about them based on a completely made up scenario.
