Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

I predict Bryant will be the most regretted contract given out this off-season.

Well, except the Baez deal…that will be a disaster.

Baez already signed and has an out after 2 years. But yeah, it's probably Freeman or Olson for 1B if Braves wanna try to repeat next year.

I think today will be nuts... it almost has to be.

My best guess: Braves re-sign Freddie and Rosario, ink Rodon.

Spending anything more than 5M on a starting pitcher is a big mistake and I hope AA works on ensuring that the rest of the team is as stacked as possible. Looking at the depth chart I just don't see the rationalization to committing any amount of significance on the starting rotation.

Morosi: Source: Prior to lockout, #Braves had detailed conversations with free agent Justin Verlander. He ultimately returned to Houston, but this indicates that the Braves are trying to fit a high-level starter *and* Freddie Freeman into their budget. @MLBNetwork @MLB

sounds like your opinion doesn’t matter here since they clearly are searching seriously given the JV news.

You are right to point that out but when the initial rumors of Verlander came about I did clarify in that if we were going to go big for someone like Verlander thats different. I don't think a 5-15M middle of the rotation starter makes us any better in a postseason setting.

totally agree that it’s dependent on the arm. I’d shove for a guy like Rodon though. Massive upside even with injury history

We've tried trading for a front end starter for multiple years now too. We were in on Clevinger, Archer, and Stroman among others. I think we even had discussions on Sonny Gray if I remember correctly.

The only two guys left out there that fit the Verlander/Scherzer profile of frontline guys that might take short deals are Kershaw and Rodon. Unless (as Carp mentions) he's willing to give up a WHOLE LOT of assets for somebody in a trade - everybody else is going to be in on those guys too, so the prospect cost for them will be even more through the roof than it normally is.

I wonder how we view Rodon. I don’t think I realized how good he was last year. If we really want an impact starter, he could be an option.
