Nobody is going to be fooled by anything Waters does in the next few weeks to increase his trade value. He is well down the path of failed toolsy OF prospects. You guys are grasping at straws because the system is so thin right now.
It’s time to understand the farm is awful because the MLB team is young and great.
With Harris up and Grissom not lighting it up the farm is very depressing right now.
AA is going to have to replace at least one outfielder, 1-2 starting pitchers, shortstop and 1-2 bullpen arms this offseason. If you have a good farm system, this is very manageable. Without a good farm system, you have to be surgical and creative with free agent signings.
Everyone wants to go big signing one of the shortstops this winter, but I don’t see how we can do that with so many holes to fill.
AA will have work to do but if anyone is up to the challenge then it's him. I mean the team could just roll with Rosario in LF and leave the OF as is. The bullpen and rotation is always in flux. Soroka showing anything this year would be a huge help towards filling that out for next year. Just as 1B was the big issue this past offseason this year it will be SS. I'd 100% ok with Swanson coming back as long as the contract makes sense.

I've been trying to debate this in my own head, but what exactly does a fair contract for Dansby look like? And what is he likely to even get? He's not among the flashier names in the free agent SS class, but his numbers speak for themselves.
Brandon Crawford is the comp that makes the most sense to me. He makes 16m AAV which is about what Dansby will get. I think the team that guarantees a 5th year will sign him.
Who is going to 5 years/$80 million for Swanson???

Dansby has been a 3-4 WAR player for the last three seasons. Someone is going to pay him.
Yup. Bae is getting a decent contract for sure.
Not sure I entirely agree.
In 07 Schafer was 20. Hit 372 in 145 PA's with a 187 WRC+ in A ball. Hit 294 in 481 PA's with a 122 WRC+ in A+ ball.
In 08 he hit 269 in 350 PA's with a 130 WRC+ in AA
Waters followed a similar path but was a year younger
In 2018 Waters was 19. He hit 303 in 365 PA's with a 145 WRC+ in A ball. He hit 268 in 133 PA's with a 94 WRC+ in A+
In 2019 he hit 319 in 454 PA's with a 144 WRC+ in AA.
Key takeaway for me is how they do at AA. Top prospects usually hit that league younger than most players. Waters hit better than Schafer while being a year younger. In the end it doesn't all mean much. Schaffer busted. Waters has tools but it's easy to see him being a bust as well. They are similar players with similar prospect status imo. Guys that got by on athleticism alone who won't have enough ability to make it/stick in the big leagues. They won't be the first or last like that.
Swanson is fine if we go with a bigger bat for LF. Rosario won’t cut it full time and Ozuna needs to stay at DH or traded if possible. Problem is there aren’t any big hitting OF available besides Judge. Even if Soroka does come back this year and looks good we’ll still have to limit him next year. Decline Morton’s option and go after Musgrove. Jansen will get less money being a year older so it’ll come down between us and the Dodgers for his services. If he signs elsewhere put Strider in as a rotation closer with Matzek and Minter.
Mezquita may well be the best prospect in the organization - by far the best position prospect. .315/.386/.815 after going 4-6 yesterday - if his power comes, look out. Also has 6 SBs.
Smith-Shawver continuing to mow people down - 62 Ks in 38.2 IP after 7 more while twirling 5 innings of 2 hit, 1 ER ball yesterday.
Tanner Gordon adjusting in Mississippi - 2 runs allowed in his last 18 IP. 7 inning complete game yesterday - 1 ER, 4 hits, 7 Ks, 2 BBs.
Why would you have to limit soroka? Curious bc it isn't arm/shoulder related
Jair Casanova off to a fast start...
.538 avg
1.263 ops
Unfortunately, only 13 AB
Is he highly thought of?
BC he had a horrible injury. Just like they are being careful on Acuna.
Plus his arm hasn't really thrown for a couple of years so ramping that back up.
