GDT 6/14/22: Braves @ Gnats - Win it for Ozzie

Funny the timing: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/if-2022-is-dansbys-swansong-in-atlanta-its-been-a-great-one/

So FG is valuing him exactly as I suggested: a 3.5 WAR player in 2023, and declining from there in the typical age related manner.

A projected 15.7 WAR over the next 6 years is what? Roughly 5/130 or 6/150? Very close to the 6/140 with an opt out Story got.

Do I want to see AA drop $150M on Swanson? Nope.
Oh to be the Astros with a Jeremy Peña waiting the wings.

I’m convinced AA acquired Arcia last year just because he knew Swanson would want too much money.

dude has his team looking at scenarios 2-3 years in advanced.

I totally agree. Not only did AA bring Arcia back for this year he’s signed for 1.6 million next year and has a 2 million option in year 3. They were also saying they thought there was something they thought they could fix. If Arcia balls out while Ozzie’s out I expect him to start next year at SS.

They seem to really like Vaughn Grissom as a potential long term solution. Arcia just seems more like a utility guy who can play short, hit bombs and happens to be a decent plan B.

He just hit two grand slams for Rome tonight.

So sign Correa to a high AAV short term deal and let Grissom handle SS in a couple of years?

Such a big fan of this. Then just get the highest OBP/defense guy in LF or just continue to have a rotating C/DH/LF platoon of TDA/Ozuna/Contreras.

I think we still have a lot of cheap pitching ready to reduce the cost of the rotation.

Will need a bunch of bullpen help though the next couple of years.

Why would they spend that kind of money on Correa when the same amount of money plus the $10 million Dansby's making this season would probably get you something like Eovaldi on a 2-3 year deal for the rotation, bring Jansen and Duvall back on one-year deals to keep the incredible pen depth and platoon with Rosario, and trade spare parts for a 1-2 WAR rental SS?

I don't see the team going multiple years on any SP right now. Maybe try to lure in deGrom with a massive 1 year deal?

Losing Swanson to a 1-2 WAR rental SS will hurt the lineup. If the team is letting him go then they need to upgrade the position or go for a big bat in LF and let Rosario be the 4th OF/DH

We offered Correa something in the offseason. If he would of accepted where would he have played? We have a more pressing need this offseason so I think AA will revisit talks with him. If Morton finishes strong then pick up the option or go after another starter on a multi year deal. Jansen hopefully will come back then just sign an OF like Benentendi for 2 years.
