Official official offseason thread

Olson is a bat-only player, no matter how good/valuable folks think his defense is. If he weren't a bat-only player he wouldn't be playing 1B.

I get that but someone has to play first. Might as well be a guy with a big bat that can also field well. And just bc someone can play 1st really well doesn’t mean they can play somewhere else well defensively. So defensively he’s not good enough to play anywhere else but compared to others at first, he’s probably a top 2-3 player defensively.

Lol just bc it’s a position you can cover with a warm body doesn’t mean having a great fielding player there isn’t worth something.

He’s gone. I’m sure we made an offer, he said no, we moved on, he came back and supposedly countered, we said no, and now 4 other teams are interested in him? See ya.

I think Dansby genuinely wants to come back but AA isn’t gonna pay him what he feels he’s worth.

Lol if this plays out exactly like Freeman/Olson, I wonder which ss we trade for and extend before Dansby knows what happened? I say that completely in jest.

I think Swanson supposedly countered with 6/140. That's probably fair for Swanson on the open market. I don't think AA is opposed to that AAV but again the length of the deal he doesn't want to do.

Depends on how AA views Grissom/Arcia as viable options at SS. We all know that he isn't going to sit around and wait for the player to decide to go somewhere else.

When he made the move to get Olson, from all reports, he was under the impression Freddie was taking another offer that he had on the table and wanted to get ahead of it before the price for Olson jumped. He didn't have a viable replacement for the big bat and had to get one. This time he has 2 bodies that can slide in.

I still think he brings back Swanson or an upgrade.

I did think it was interesting to note that to get the Aaron Judge deal done, the owner himself called and asked if Judge wanted to be a Yankee, once he said yes, they put the deal together easily. AA mentioned that he didn't talk directly with Freeman, that the negotiation was strictly with his agent. If he had called up Freddie or Freddie called him, i'm sure Freeman is still a Brave.

Swanson called AA recently

Yeah, thats where i am too. I dont think 6/140 is that crazy of a deal but AA doesnt wanna go to that amount.

I really hope Dans isn't the guy AA breaks the bank for.

He's not Mr. Brave like Chipper was. Nor what Freddie was either.

I guess it’ll depend on what the best offers are that Dansby gets and how they compare to ours. If they aren’t to far off then it’ll be up to Dansby to decide. But 6/140 most teams would have signed him by now.

.@Braves acquire RHP Joe Jimenez and cash from @tigers for minor leaguers OF Justyn-Henry Malloy and LHP Jake Higginbotham #MLBOnTheMove #HotStove

The level of the sanctions the Braves were hit with still pisses me off. It was a complete overreaction by MLB. They should have come down hard on Coppy but left the Braves largely alone as an organization. GM's seeing one of their own getting slammed would have been just as effective of a message. But MLB had a chance to make an example of a team that wasn't one of their sacred cows and they took it. If it was the Yankees or Red Sox that got caught you'd have seen a scout or two get banned and that would have been the end of it.

Sanctions were very fair.

Ok…none of that is counter to my point.

Losing the players was bare bones enforcement of the rules.

The penalties on top were the punishment.
We lost the players, lost the money we paid them, and lost people we would have been able to sign in those years. Then we got basically cut out for multiple years after that when teams had been pulling shenanigans for years and we were the only ones who got hammered. Frankly I wish Manfred would get cancer and die.
