GDT 9/2/23: Braves @ Dodgers - Keep on crushing

Wow…this whole west coast trip has been a statement. If you compare it even to last year’s team (which struggled on the trip to Oakland, Seattle and SF around this time, I believe), it‘s a different level.

Last season, September was very meaningful in chasing down the Mets. This year, it is meaningless except for the record books. Let‘s hope they still manage to maintain their tension and focus, so they don‘t have to gear up too much for the first meaningful game in a month.

Acuna showing the power this road trip. I think he gets to his 40 HR mark.....

As far as Olson, i'm not sure he gets to 45 HRs before the end of the season with the slump he is in....JK of course, but seriously.,

I think Acuna could probably have hit .280-.300 at hit 50+ homers this year. I think its his need to steal bases thats driving him to sacrifice some power for more base hits. Now that he is close to 70 SB and farther from 40 HR I think he is focusing on hitting homers. Wont surprise me in the least bit if he has a big month and gets to 40 HR.

I think it would be cool if he kept that approach and set the Atlanta single season hits record.

Lost in all of this is a huge inning by Tonkin in the 9th. High leverage, and gets Betts.

Oh that wasn't lost on me. Acuña hits the hardest ball of the year for a HR and Betts Ks looking to end the 9th. I don't see how after this series anyone can still think Betts is MVP.

What a difference a weekend makes. Going onto Thursday's game, we had a four game lead for the HFA (really 3 1/2, since the Dodgers led the season series). There were 30 games remaining, but four of them were with the Dodgers.

As we sit here today, we have a six game lead (really 6 1/2, since we have clinched the season series) with only 26 games left--none of which are with the Dodgers.

Had the series gone for the Dodgers 3-1, we would have had a two game lead (really only 1 1/2 since the Dodgers would own the season series).

Some Dodgers fans are saying they're glad they lost so they dont have to play Philly in the 1st round.

Currently...
Braves and dodgers bye
Milwaukee vs Arizona/Miami/SF
Philly Vs cubs

Philly most likely uses wheeler and Nola against cubs, and that's if it only goes 2 games.

Last year they went Suarez-Wheeler-Nola first 3 games. But yeah, depends how the series goes but they're deeper in the rotation with Lorenzen and even Tajuan Walker. I will say the Brewers is maybe more favorable but they roll out Burnes/Peralta/Woodruff in a short series and that's not fun to face, plus a tough bullpen as well.

Who is gonna tell Matt come playoff time he’s gotta go camping again

I think it is me betting on the dodger$ that did it. I forgot to put 10 bucks on Sunday. Lost 27.50 this weekend. Someone call gambling addiction hotline for me.

Really wanted the sweep yesterday but can’t be too upset with how this road trip finished up. Just the best team in baseball showing the team who played the best for just one month that it takes more than that to knock the king off.

Umm Dodgers have the 2nd best record in baseball, they've been playing well all year, just got reallly hot in August. Also, 3 of the 4 games were close, not like we won every game 12-1.

Games 3 and 4 were close.

The Braves dominated games 1 and 2 more so than the score indicate. Yes the dodgers scratched their way back but both games were relatively in hand by the 3rd inning.

The main takeaway from this series for me is how underwhelming the dodgers rotation is. Quite frankly, it was shocking how mediocre they are. I have a hard time being concerned in the least about the Braves offense vs these pitchers, and the only way I see the Braves losing the NLCS to them is if Fried/Strider have a bad game, Morton melts down, and Elder gets shelled.

And now Urias is likely done.

Maybe forever.

Yeah there pen seems to be pretty good still but the rotation is just meh… especially with Urias likely done
