2023 Misc Braves Talk

I have to wonder if last night was the last we see of Soroka in a Braves uniform. This injury may put him out the rest of the season, and then the decision may be made this off season to non-tender him. He is making $2.8 million this year, and has another arbitration eligible season next year, so probably will make slightly more than that. Will be an interesting decision.

I think his only chance staying with the Braves is signing a separate contract outside of arbitration. They’re just no reason at this point to commit $3m to someone who isn’t going to contribute next year (and likely ever).

It’s incredibly sad. One of the bigger what ifs we have had since Steve Avery.

Beachy was a sad case as well

I am no longer worried about Strider in the playoffs. It's pretty clearly focus...

I'd love to put a bunch of stock into the theory that Spencer isn't as pumped up against lesser comp, but I just can't.

I'm a little surprised that AA wasn't more aggressive in bringing in a dependable starter, because it would be a shame to waste this offense. Wright looks to be on the verge of coming back, but he's not exactly a sure thing either.

I agree grabbing another arm would be smart, but to be fair, Strider's numbers show he's a sure thing against elite talent. The kind you'll face in the postseason.

I think there is a bigger problem is Strider is just not caring against lessor talent. I am not going to try and explain those numbers away, but if they really do represent what they are trying to represent, then there is a much bigger problem. You just don't turn on/off your eliteness.. Maybe it is a game planning thing/less film study... but I don't like the thought of a guy not giving a crap because a team sucks. those games mean something too.

With the offense locked up for several years I think AA will really focus hard on pitching this offseason. He’ll grab another top starter like Cease knowing that Fried is gone in a year and he’ll grab another elite bullpen arm like Hader.

this team needs a better pen next year. 5 elite pen arms will win in the playoffs.. even with average starting pitching. If the Braves fail this postseason, I bet the pen will be the blame. Unfortunately, we will have to count on guys like Lee/JJ/Hand/Johnson/yates and not one of those guys gives me confidence they can give the Braves a clean inning 80% of the time.

We do in not know what the pen is going to look like yet for the postseason. Wright Anderson and Chavez are all still expected back.

Have any of the guys moved at the deadline porches remotely well? Seems like they’re all getting blown up.

Jordan Montgomery has done Jordan Montgomery things in Texas, rough last start notwithstanding.

Yeah, he’s been good. Other than him it seems everyone who was touted as an obvious upgrade has not been good at all. Lorenzen had the no-hitter but has been terrible since.
