Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Did anyone see how the Sonny Gray contract was structured? 3 years / $75m

2024 - $10m
2025 - $25m
2026- $35m

2027- team option for $30m.

If the team picks up the option for 2027, Gray has the right to opt out of the deal and get a $5m buyout that would be spread out over 5 years.

Also gets a full no trade clause.

Odd construction. I thought it would be front-loaded instead of back-loaded. Cardinals have a nice set of prospects, but they are a couple of years away.

I'm of the opinion the Braves have 5 years until their window closes. That's when Acuna likely departs for a giant payday. At this point the goal should be to maximize the teams ability to win in those 5 years. If it comes at the cost of contending beyond the 5 year mark then so be it. That Gray contract would have been nice.

If we remain a top 5 payroll team, I would expect us to retain Ronald. AA (assuming he's still here) likely approaches him about another extension in 2026 that would basically void his final 2 years in favor a larger deal with a higher AAV.

According to MLB.com the Padres are advancing talks on a Juan Soto trade with the Yankees. Says they have moved to the stage of exchanging names but. Nothing close at this time.

That is top tier offseason clickbait reporting lol

I know it’s clickbait but it makes a ton of sense. Judge needs help bad and Soto would definitely do that. They also have the money to give him the contract he’s gonna want.

Agreed. They could easily trade and extend Soto and add a solid FA arm to make this a good off-season for them. They were a wreck last year, but they're a year removed from being very good.

They need to move Stanton in a bad way. If they would eat half his remaining salary (including whatever they are getting from Miami), would anyone take him to play LF? I know he was awful last year, but he still maintains elite EVs and his rate stats are right in line with career averages. He has historically been a solid defender, though he rated poorly last year.

I hate you, I wanted Ronald to be a career Brave:(

I wish Ohtani would just go ahead and sign with the Dodgers who we all know he will eventually sign with. I keep seeing MLBNetwork and Morosi mention how perfect of a fit Atlanta is but we all know it isn't going to happen.

According to Sportrack, Braves will be around $85m below the luxury tax thresh hold next season with all of the contracts coming off the books. But they will be needing to replace Fried, Ozuna, Minter, Morton. and possibly a few others. Can't do that with Ohtani making more than 50% of whats left and have to fill in the other holes on the roster.

But 3-5 years of Acuna, Ohtani, Riley, and Olson at the top of the order would be tasty

Arozarena is being made available by the Rays.

Grissom, AJSS, Murphy for Glasnow (we eat entire salary) and Arozarena?

Sign me up for that... I'd still like to sign one more 3 type pitcher though with Glasnow's health history. But Arozarena in LF would be beautiful.

Arozarena would be a huge get. He brings a ton of energy with him and would fit right in. Always scary dealing with the Rays but they are a team that would get the most out of Grissom.

Sources: Dylan Cease trade talks have intensified in the last 48 hours, and some people close to the negotiations believe a deal *before* the winter meetings is increasingly possible.

Cease’s hometown Braves are among the finalists.

Would love a Cease deal.

6 years (!!!!) younger and a better pitcher than Sonny Gray.

We could be a juggernaut next year with Cease and someone serviceable in left.
