REAL FOOTBALL Thread

TD total is a counting stat in a new era of football. Its not as meaningful as a rate stat like comp % or NY/Att.

I'm not sure what else to say but Purdy is doing things that only Rodgers/Brady/Montana have done.

Comp% is hardly a new stat.

Listen right now I can defend purdy for MVP because no one else is stamping it and because of that I can't punish him for McCaffrey, Aiyuk, Kittle and Deebo. I can't. But lying about **** like that is silly. Absolutely do counting stats like TD passes matter. Of course rate stats matter, but rate stats are a piece of the pie. It doesn't matter if you hit .400 but play 100 games, it's not worth more than the guy who hits .300 for 150 games.

But the disparity is not that far in the amount of 'events' and the reason for the disparity is not because of Purdy doing something bad (Injury) but more to do with someone good (being awesome from the start of games and making them laughers).

Nobody is saying Purdy is doing this without great talent around him but almost every quarterback that has good seasons has great talent around him.

Mahomes could very well go down as the greatest QB of all time and he isn't even able to have monster seasons without high level talent around him.

LMFAO. You are so FOS.

Completion percentages have increased dramatically over the last 10 years. 65% completion is the new 60%. Hell, last year 4 different QBs had a completion 68% or higher.
70% in this era isn't nearly as impressive as you think it is.

Doing it for long spans of time actually is though - If its so easy why has nobody else been able to accomplish this?

Anyone who's attempting to downplay the role Deebo and McCaffrey play is foolish. Purdy is having a great year, but he has 2 of the most dangerous players with the ball in their hands in the league.

I dont' think any single person has downplayed the weapons/talent SF has - I literally argued at the start of the year they had easily the best talent in football and you disagreed.

Purdy is finding guys in stride and throws with amazing anticipation/accuracy. Receivers get YAC when they are hit in stride with the right timing of the route progressions.

Also - Deebo's TD against the eagles on the 5 yard drag route he was the 3rd/4th option on the route. Thats on Purdy to get him the ball as well as Deebo breaking one tackle. He didn't break ten - It was just one because Purdy correctly identifies where the defense is on the route and throws it into areas with maximum space.

Don't pretend that isn't a big part of the equation for big plays.

This is how YAC accumulates.

Watch the QB school tape. What Purdy is doing is amazing.

There is so much analysis that is showing Purdy is in a class of his own this year.

Its not his fault that he is coming out strong in these games and putting games away late in 3rd or early 4th.

Because it's only been recently that the NFL has evolved into a league that makes it insanely easy for QBs to be successful.

Understand that of the thousands of qualified QB seasons, only 20 times in NFL history has a QB with enough attempts to qualify, finished with a completion percentage of 70% or higher. But 16 of those 20 seasons have come since the year 2009. 15+ years ago, it was a rare feat for anyone to complete 70% of their passes, happening only 4 times in history. But now we have averaged over 1 per season since 2009.

I'm well aware of how the league is changing and counting stats are going to be inflated but Purdy is still doing things in terms of consistency that no other QB is doing.

Its not that he is just dinking and dunking for the 70%. I have showed repeatedly how he is throwing the ball down the field and he is still posting tremendous completion percentages.

Sturg literally just showed his explosive plays are going about 15 air yards and it ranks in the bottom 5% since 2000. Most of his success stems from having amazing play makers around him.

When you throw with anticipation and accuracy YAC happens. Go look at the Kittle TD from this past week or Ayiuk's long pass against TB.

Purdy is putting it on them perfectly and timely and the runners have basically nothing but space in front of them.

Hold that against Purdy all you want but I am just asking you to watch the QB school tape to see what Purdy is doing so well.

These are throws that Purdy is making regularly. This is not because of his weapons. This is a QB with great pocket presence and throwing his receivers wide open.

Josh Allen has at best 2 weapons around him. Diggs is a beast, but after that, Kincaid could be good but he's not there yet and Davis is interesting in that he's a homerun threat but he has some of the worst hands in the NFL. Running game doesn't exist and his line is mid.

But the biggest advantage is ALlen's OC is a moron. Well was.

His receiver had his DB beat, this is a throw any competent QB makes.

Not really.

Purdy is 17th in intended air yards, despite not being top 10 in catches, he's 3rd in YAC.

He escaped the pocket and threw it into an area where Ayiuk was able to maintain momentum and run underneath a ball.

When you say competant QB how many are you saying exist?

Who cares about 'intended air yards' that could be QB's just chucking it down the field into double or triple coverage.

Unless of course the metric (which I've never heard up until now) covers something else and happy to research if you could provide a link.

About half the league. Sure Desmond Ridder doesn't make that throw. But so many do.

Care to give a listing of QB's you think can escape the pocket and go to a third/fourth option while rolling to their weak side and drop an absolute dime to their receiver in stride 30+ yards down the field?

Again about half the league

Mahomes, Allen, Rodgers, Dak, Cousins, Stafford, Wilson, Lawrence, Tua, and there are guys who I think probably could do that who I don't think are great QBs like Kyler, Howell, Geno, etc.

What you're describing is a good play, but it's a play that's expected in the NFL. Compare that to this

Your response includes a handful of guys (Stafford can’t make that play btw but he makes other worldly throws). Then you post a clip of arguably the best QB of all time as a rebuff?
