GDT 9/12/22: Braves @ Giants - Time To Hit That Final Stride

Think that's the $64,000 question - have they seen enough in the limited time he's worked behind the scenes out there with EY to just throw him out there? The more interesting question IMO is WHERE has he been working with EY? We've heard "in the OF", but to my knowledge no one ever specified...

Wonder if a "challenge trade" for someone like T. J. Friedl is something Alex would consider this winter given Anderson's struggles. LH hitter that can play all 3 OF spots who has options left. He's always had solid BB/K rates, can run a bit, and has a little pop. He'd be what you hoped Waters...

9/13 GDT: Time to end a losing streak - giants game 2

Someone mentioned having him go down to get some game experience in LF when Ozzie's activated. Not the worst idea I've heard so he still gets 4 PAs every night. Just make sure to have a LONG talk with him so he understands it isn't a "demotion". Just a chance to go spend more time tracking...

9/13 GDT: Time to end a losing streak - giants game 2

Better defender than Rosario. I don't expect either to hit much, but if they don't think the defensive downgrade to Rosario is enough to worry about use Rosario instead.

I don't disagree. That said, making contact and putting it in play (at all) from that side is better than he was doing to start the year.

GDT 9/11/22: Braves @ Mariners - A must win day game

Probably wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to give him a day or two off and then have him hitting in front of Riley to see if that gets him a little better pitches to hit. Really needs a break though - looked seriously lost after slamming his helmet and barking at himself last night.

9/13 GDT: Time to end a losing streak - giants game 2

I'd imagine this is all about having Acuna ready to play defense every day in the playoffs. Get him healthy enough to do that, and you'll be able to platoon Grossman and Grissom in LF and have Contreras DH so you can have ALL the bats in there.

First hit was a left-handed single off of Tyler Glasnow. All the others (other than the bomb) were against RHPs as well. Something clicked - if he's getting around as well as hoped, it wouldn't be surprising to see him active for the Phillies series Friday IMO. Elder with another strong start...

IIRC that was done so that rehabbing players that might be added to playoff rosters would have a more competitive environment to play in. No question that Ozzie needs that right now - he'd have been screwed if he would have been limited to ABs against complex league guys.

There is absolutely no reason for them to backtrack after saying they're not going to limit Strider's innings - they (including Alex) haven't danced around that subject at all at any point. You're trying to win a second straight World Championship, so it's perfectly reasonable to expect Alex and...

Around the Majors - 2022 Version

They used to be - but as I mentioned, you didn't have MLB.tv available so you could watch the guys like Henderson and Coleman whenever you wanted to back in the day. Entirely different set of fans today - what we do know is that the current product is pretty boring and the games take entirely...

Around the Majors - 2022 Version

You're missing the entire point of ALL the rule changes. The goal is to provide more ACTION so fans don't turn the channel. The main reason for tuning in to games Henderson and Coleman were playing in on TV was to see them steal bases since you didn't have the chance to see all the out-of-market...

I'm not sure the real goal has ever been to have him ready for the postseason. I feel sure they'd have been thrilled to have him come back with 4 minor league starts just like his first one - more because it would push Morton and Wright to maintain focus since there was another legitimate option...

Around the Majors - 2022 Version

This is why there isn't really an "answer" to all of this. If you choose to make the 2B a "shallow-RF" all the soft-contact dribblers become hits. I'll be the first to say I haven't looked up all the data, but it would seem reasonable to expect more of them with continued increases in velocity...

    A little perspective on MHII

This answer from the talking heads (not just Law) - particularly when they aren't watching the players signing these extensions every day - is getting pretty old TBH. Even the old school folks (GMs, Managers, Coaches, and fans alike) understand the risks involved in long-term deals. Maybe they...

Strider penciled in to start for Gwinnett tomorrow - looks like another week before he's part of the discussion.

    9/7 GDT: A's game 2

The Ynoa decision is going to be interesting. You'd expect paying him the MLB minimum salary to put him on the 60-Day IL to rehab wouldn't be a big deal with the payroll increase, but he's pitched so badly since he lost his cool and tried to beat up a dugout it's probably fair to wonder whether...

Extension Talks With Swanson Reportedly Underway

I don't personally think Ozzie can go back to SS - the loop in his throwing motion seems like it would be too much to overcome. That said, I don't understand why re-signing Dansby is such an issue - he's good (without question), and one of those "glue guys" that us old school fans (and our...

    Award Watch 2022

Brandon Hyde and Scott Servais likely deserve far more consideration than Baker or Boone. No one - and I mean NO ONE - thought the Orioles or Mariners would be where they are when this season started (and possibly didn't even think so at the All-Star break). Francona probably deserves to be in...

    Rotation Down The Stretch

An absolute stab in the dark, but I'm going to guess Soroka comes up to start one of next weekend's games and they go with a 6-man rotation to get looks at both he and Odorizzi as potential pen candidates during the playoffs. That would give Soroka and Odorizzi 4 starts each to get a good feel...
