    Matt Kemp

When thinking about things like that, you should take your line of thinking to the extreme and see if it still makes sense. If you put mid-prime Andruw Jones in CF on a team where your pitchers strike out literally every batter all year, then yeah, his defensive contribution to that team's...

    Matt Kemp

I think Trumbo is the best comp of all the power-and-nothing-else FA this offseason - and he got 3 years at 12.5 million per, despite being younger and having played better than Kemp the last two seasons.

I think this article does a good job of describing both the human and statistical sides of protection: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2015/5/19/8614817/lineup-protection-myth-reality-exists Pitchers are definitely aware of the guy on deck, but in practice it just leads to an uptick in the...

Great new charts illustrating OF defense

Oh, you're preaching to the choir. I was just curious if he had some way of coming up with that number or if he just pulled it out of his ass.

MLB Pipeline Top 10 SS: Swanson #2, Maitan #7

Yeah I don't either. Seems like Swanson is what you hope Torres turns out to be, except Swanson already has (limited) success in the majors.

Five Least Favorite Braves of All Time

I also blame him (probably not rightfully) for us not getting David Ortiz. But as thewupk said, the NLDS play alone was enough. Also, can't believe I forgot about Rocker. It's easy to hate on Kotchman, but I blame JS and Bobby Cox for that one. Insisting we get a major league 1B back in...

Braves acquire Alex Jackson from SEA for Whalen and Povse

Is it just me, or do the Mariners seem to have a higher number of prospects flame out than usual?

Braves acquire Alex Jackson from SEA for Whalen and Povse

Yeah for the most part I like what the Braves have done with this rebuild and I think they're on the right track, but when you're using phrases like "one of the most remarkable franchise turnarounds we've ever seen" before most of the prospects involved in the rebuild have even gotten out of A+...

    Possible SP target... maybe

I think it's absolutely crazy for him to say; it's better than the package we got for Shelby Miller, which people said at the time was close to what a package for Jose Fernandez should look like.

    Projecting the offseason 40-man roster

Yeah Roe seems like he has some upside and I'd like to see him start the year on the MLB team. Hursh and Janas put up nice ERAs, but career middle relievers who strike out 5-6 guys per 9 aren't exactly difficult to replace.

    Predict the Rotation

Yeah and he'll also be 35 on opening day. It's not a bad idea to take on a recovery project, but he doesn't have all that much time left to rebound.

    2016 Postseason Thread

I'm confused - what do you think he did with the Rays in 2008?

    2016 Postseason Thread

Oh yeah, they're definitely still figuring it out (hopefully). But the fact that the pendulum moved at all is significant, and I hope it'll lead to managers thinking more about leverage and times through the order when they make decisions about pulling a starter or which reliever to use.

    2016 Postseason Thread

It might just be me, but it seemed like there was significantly more conversation about leverage and reliever usage during the playoffs this year than ever before. The Royals' WS win already had people paying more attention to the bullpen, so I could see teams putting more thought into the way...
