GDT: 4/18 Braves @ Padres: Strider after getting chewed out

I would go to a 6-man rotation for a few turns through to see how it's working. The likelihood is that during that period of time, somebody has to go to the IL or skip a couple starts and it works itself out for a period of time. And if the 6-man rotation isn't working out and everyone is...

Alcantara actually seems to be the clear favorite for Cy Young in the NL.

GDT 9/1/22: Braves vs Rockies - September Callups

Bad news is anything can happen in a 3-game series. Good news is we'll get the Dodgers in a 5-game series instead of 7. We're better than the Mets and Cardinals so I feel confident against them in a 7-game series. We're not better than the Dodgers, so good we would get them in a best of 5.

It sounds like the Braves believe they can add a couple MPH on the kid’s fastball easier than they can improve someone’s command or secondary stuff, and I think it’s a solid bet. And even if Murphy doesn’t add velocity, he can still become a good MLB SP.

I think what we’re seeing from the first 3 picks is that the Braves’ board just looks a little different. They seem to scout pitchers a little differently. We’ll see how it plays out but they seem to believe that both Murphy and Ritchie were essentially 1st round guys.

Dude, you found one video that said he was an ‘ultra low effort’ 90-92. And that video is from March 2021.

Definitely don’t see the overslot guy yet. Could be Ritchie, just seems odd given where he’s ranked.

It’s just impossible to judge an MLB draft for like 4 years at least. Preller is having a great night from our perspective because they’re ranked high and we know their names. But it will likely mean the rest of their top 10 round picks are weaker, and then who knows what anybody becomes.

Mazur to me is not the other big get, it’s Snelling. Lesko, Snelling, and Mazur is very nice. Likely going below slot from here on.

He was. There have been tons of UCLA commitments who signed and went pro. I think when they say ‘because of his ____ commitment’ they basically just mean ‘This kid is more motivated to go to school than most.’ It’s not that UCLA commits are always hard to sign.

Certainly possible. I just don’t think it matters that he’s committed to ND as opposed to, say, Tennessee or UNC or Oregon St. or anybody else.

My point is that every kid is committed somewhere. The amount they typically ask for is what they can realistically get. A kid in the top 5-10 is going to ask for more than a kid ranked 48, even if the kid 5-10 is committed to Auburn and the kid at 48 is committed to Harvard. They’re actually...

Your likelihood of going under slot has basically nothing to do with where you’re committed and everything to do with where you would have otherwise been drafted. It’s not like a kid committed to ND ranked 140 would need to be paid 1st round money or else he’s going to school.

Dude, the Anderson pick was a good one. Period. Yes, that draft looks terrible in hindsight. It’s almost like the Braves did some scouting and thought none of those guys seemed any better than Anderson.

Once you hit this part of the draft, it happens. Right after us, teams were taking guys ranked even lower than Murphy.

That’s not really the way it works. If ND had a history of getting top guys to forego a pay day and come to school, that’s a different story.
