2022 MLB Draft Thread

I'm just tired of seeing low-90s fastball pitchers. We've churned out so many who put up shiny numbers in the minors and just get shelled in the majors.

If this kid adds 3-4 MPH on his fastball and tightens up his offspeed pitches then great. But that's a lot to expect from a small pitcher.

You clearly have only read about 2 whole paragraphs about this dude. You legit have no idea what you're talking about.

High school rh and not super tall…highest risk in the draft….

Seems like lots of people life the slider and upside. I’ve never heard of him.

Looks an awful lot like the Anderson draft. Is copy hired back with a fake mustache?

We're just going to have to agree to disagree. The relative strength of a college commitment clearly plays into where (and sometimes if) a guy is drafted. I doubt the Braves would have drafted him in the first if there was a big obstacle in terms of likely signing. The point I am making is that the magnitude of possible slot savings can be somewhat dependent on what cards the player is holding and a college commitment is just about the only card a high school player has. If the Braves low ball him, he'll just go to college and a Notre Dame education is a pretty valuable piece of sheepskin.

My point is that every kid is committed somewhere. The amount they typically ask for is what they can realistically get. A kid in the top 5-10 is going to ask for more than a kid ranked 48, even if the kid 5-10 is committed to Auburn and the kid at 48 is committed to Harvard. They’re actually far more likely to be committed to Auburn over Harvard anyway, it’s better for a college baseball player.

If the kid ranked 48 is still going pro even if they get 50 money, you can probably get him to agree to take, say, 40 money at pick 20, thus going significantly under slot. The main issue is what other teams are telling him about where he might be taken.

If a kid just wants to go to school, then it doesn’t matter where you take him. I seriously doubt if Murphy was demanding top 20 money that a) people wouldn’t know it and b) we would have taken him.

Only difference is that Roy Clark seemed to draft these gigantic guys.
