Amazing that AA built a team specifically to slug and then he hires a new hitting coach in an effort to make more contact. I’m not saying it’s Hyers’ fault, because I don’t think hitting coaches make that big of a difference overall, but clearly AA thought this team needed a change of approach. Which, of course, doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when the team he built is meant to hit homers first and foremost. And it seemed like a knee-jerk reaction/over correction after last year, which is never a good thing for a GM to do.
It just shows you that while I don’t think AA is a bad GM at this point, he hasn’t been firing on all cylinders. I guess executives go through slumps too.
