116th Congress

For the record, I do find it troubling Graham went from calling Trump an imbecile since he started running to basically bending over backwards on everything for him in the last 12 months.

Not saying it's blackmail, but his behavior sure has been a bit strange. His bff McCain would not approve. And it wouldn't surprise me if Graham was gay (nothing wrong with it if he is).

You are surprised that someone said disparaging things about a candidate they didn't support and then supported that candidate after they won election? Really?

i think the explanation is fairly simple...he plans to run for re-election...this requires certain accommodations in the party of trump in south carolina

Graham was a big never Trumper, since Trump made fun of McCain for being captured. The first year of his Presidency he was basically going against almost everything Trump tried to accomplish.

And then when Trump proved to support Conservative/Republican principles its only natural for his impression of an unknown to change.

Oh I'm aware of that. I mean most of the Senate Republicans who voted not to lift sanctions are up in 2020.

But Graham basically went from being with McCain on the never trump train to basically being Trump's biggest ally in the Senate all in the span of less than a year.

but i do see a ray of hope in south carolina...mark sanford was primaried...and the seat ended up going to the Dems...i think after a while so many accomodations get made to trumpism that even in a conservative place like south carolina a group of voters become willing to vote for the Dems

even McCain trimmed his sails to get through the primary

They did vote to re-elect Tim Scott, after he was given the seat a few years ago.

Wonder how they'd feel about re-electing a Gay Republican Senator?

its one of those things where once you are an incumbent and voters know you it doesn't matter much...if he were a new face running for the first time it would probably kill his chances to have those kinds of rumors going around

As a South Carolinian, I would chime in to say that I think Lindsay would be re-elected even if he were known to be gay. He hasn’t really done anything to piss off the base for ages. He’s a reliable vote, which is what counts. The state Democrats have a weak bench and haven’t bothered to run anyone legit against him, and probably won’t in the future. The Tea Party types hate him, but they always have, and they’ve never been able to mount any real challenge to him. Coming out wouldn’t get him primaried, but coming out against Trump would. There’s no percentage in it for him. I think the people who are wound up about blackmail have him wrong. He’s not compromised, just unprincipled.

But, somewhat more to the point, I watched that clip and didn’t see anything about blackmail or sexuality.

looks like I need to be more careful about assuming people act in good faith when posting around here

when I link an article I read most of it first

She tweeted that he is compromised and the entire internet has jumped on the "bc he's gay" thing.

You are more than welcome to play coy about it... And I'm sure you will because (D)

I think he too is compromised by Russian interests (mob)

on that we agree

let me add, I suspect the same of Paul Ryan
any of those (R) candidates would have signed what Trump signed. Legislatively (without Trump ) they probably would have accomplished more - because I think without Trump (R) holds the House

Wow. @AOC’s first speech on the House floor is already the most watched CSPAN video of all time.
