2015 WINTER MEETINGS THREAD

Posts like this make Niners irrelevant. Figure in 2016 he'll try to retire the Worst Poster trophy (since Heyward will likely slit his wrists when he signs with Washington).

Meh i'm expecting it, mystery teams always get the players it seems.

Seen worse things happen though.

not going to argue with too many points.. I have said Frediot was a big reason CB never had a chance to prove himself. Last year was a waste of a year and CB should have played 75% of the time.. I also agree that Emilio is a wasted signing. I don't care about the money.. it is a roster spot that we could have filed internally. No need to grade the CB trade or the Flowers signing. Those are in the same breath of Frediot not playing CB. I give both of those transactions an A for what they are worth. I give Frediot an F for not letting us see what CB could really be..

Over all, the Braves did very well at these meetings. Solid A.. my only gripe is the Emilio signing. I am also on the side of trading Julio and Markickass... but I am not going to take points off for what they didn't do... I am by far less knowledgeable than the FO..

My problem with CB is he was always highly rated but he never showed anything with the bat in the minors. I think Braves scouts got enamored with his arm and "projected" ability to throw out runners and suddenly he was the next Ivan Rodriguez. Then he got to the majors and didn't hit (which should have really been no surprise) and was generally lazy and unprofessional behind the plate when he had opportunities. Now, could good management have lit a fire and got him turned around? Maybe. But Freddie's not that guy...

Please tell me you at least understand the rationale behind this. If not, I really can't help you.

No, not every prospect will pan out. But guess what every single player you would like us to bring in was at one point - a prospect.

Get enough good ones, and you're going to be fine.

Well yeah I can understand their rationale behind these moves, but I don't agree with it at all.

with you... NO.. I like you and want you to stick around.. I was just offering some info on other teams sign up day.. I just hate to see you so sad all the time.. I worry about you..

Believe me I am not sad. Just don't have the time nor desire to let this team effect me. They aren't worth the time anymore. Sure I will come here and say what I feel, but the amount that I care is depleted completely. Last season was the first time in a long time I didn't watch the Braves. The money needed to shell out to see them can be spent somewhere else.

To be fair, when it was rumored the Braves were going after Zobrist, you complained about that saying it doesn't make sense.

So there's not much winning with you

So you like a winning team. That is why I suggested you become a fan of a different team. See, I like the Braves organization. I like what they have done to improve the organization. Sure the mlb team is suffering. But hey, you have to take some lumps sometimes. It shows one character on how you react when times are tough.

Has nothing to do with winning games. I just don't care for the organization as a whole right now. Don't like ownership or the front office decisions. I am not going to support the team when I feel like they aren't trying to field a team. It's a rebuild. Nut up and say that. Quit trying to spin it as a reload or something else. Also sick of hearing about how they will be competitive this season similar to last season. That didn't work out like they thought.

I can understand your perspective, but I think it's petty to lose faith off of questionable PR.

I think you can at least understand the strategy in general even if you disagree with specific moves.

Might be petty, but it's all this pent up frustration since the turn of the century. Guess maybe we are/were spoiled baseball fans.

Ok, fair enough. So give me your ideal general strategy, beginning in November of last year, for remaining competitive in this 2-3 year stretch while still allowing for a bright future as well.

Well the team isn't remaining competitive though. My general strategy would have been to go for it. The Heyward trade is fine with me. I would have looked to build on what the team had save for Heyward obviously. I would have looked long and hard to try and find a lead off hitter and another higher on base percentage hitter like a Markakis. I think Wren had an idea and he went for it with his whole feast or famine lineup. I like the transition to a team that doesn't fit that former mold, but there needs to be some sort of balance between the two extremes.

Might be the most generic and vague response at an attempt to be specific I've ever read.

Incierte/Soler swap? I mean i'd probably do it but it's risky. Incierte has a lower ceiling but you know what you'll get.

#Cubs looking at Span & teams that may have a CF to trade. Rays' Jennings possible. Believe can get Inciarte from w/ Soler if necessary

Am I crazy for not being certain I'd want Soler for Inciarte? We'd be back to having Bourn as CF and relying on Mallex for beyond that. We'd still have Olivera and Markakis. Soler has a way higher ceiling but has been pretty bad defensively.

Saw some cubs fans speculating Teheran and Inciarte for Soler. I'd HATE that. I'd rather see what we needed to give up for Schwarber.

EDIT: She speculates it would be Soler PLUS for Inaciarte. That's intersting.

Ender is the type of player this team needs with Fredi at the helm. Otherwise, we're going to end up with another .300 OBP at the top. I would rather keep him at least until Fredi is gone.

Julio and Ender for Soler.. there better be more coming back our way.. Ender right now is better than Soler.. and like many.. I am not convinced that Soler is the real deal.. his defense is bad and his contact rate is too low to be successful..

To me, Soler is a chance worth taking. I certainly wouldn't give Tehran up in a deal with Ender, but if be willing to part with pitching prospect like Jenkins in a deal.

The reason bring, when you look at all the talent that we have acquired. The one thing that we are lacking is middle of the order power hitting tripe prospects. Certainly there are a few, but I think most will agree that our elite talent at this point in time is more beginning of the order speed type guys.

I've said many times if were going to do this (build like the Braves from the 90s), then from a positional player perspective we need to find our modern day version of Justice and Gant to build the lineup around. Freeman and Soler could be that duo.

Soler certainly has his question marks, but his upside is also tremendous. He could be a legit 30-40 hr type guy, and in this era of pitching dominanted game that could be a great commodity and advantage. And if we believe that Mallex is indeed the next Kenny Lofton or even Michael Bourne, then a deal centered around Ender IMO is a no brainer.
