2016 Draft Position

I'm getting too excited over the fact that the Braves may be getting a stud hitter, but we all know they'll take a pitcher regardless of taking the BPA (if it is a hitter).

I think today's loss moves us to 8th as far as top ten for a protected draft pick, correct? Indians won their last two so they have a better record than us with the same amount of wins and two less losses.

yes we're 8th now on ESPN's standings

Personally, I am her happy with how this season has gone. We showed early on the season some promise and competed. Granted some of that had to do with the impact some of our scab veteran players had, but every team every year has a couple of guys come in and contribute. We have had that happen every year that I have been a Braves fan.

Now that we have traded those players for some good young talent I am perfectly content with losing and picking up a protected potential top 5 pick.

That sure beats ending up with the 11-20th pick and losing it due to signing a free agent or simply not signing such a free agent due to no protected pick. When management throws in the towel with such trades that have been made that's as good as it gets.

I dont think theres any way they will give up the first round pick to sign a free agent. The idea of rebuilding was to get back to competing every year and that requires a constant cycle of young/cheap players to fill the holes in the team.

i can't decide if I should care about this or not...it seems like we aren't going after any draft pick attached FAs....maybe Weiters but that would make me sad.

Yeah, we can go ahead and understand that for NEXT year, it won't be a "hail to all the Free Agents signed" type of direction. The signings that we made this year are perfectly fine if they help maintain and push us to be playoff contenders and not pretenders. They will stay the course unless that pick is protected. So we should care that we remain top 10.

I have read where Kiley McDaniel says that scouts feel that there will be between 5-7 elite prospects come out of this draft. Most of that elite status centers around these players:

RHP Alec Hansen, Oklahoma

RHP Riley Pint, St. Thomas Aquinas HS (KS)

OF Blake Rutherford, Chaminade Prep HS (CA)

LHP A.J. Puk, Florida

OF Nick Banks, Texas A&M

RHP Austin Bergner, Windemere Prep (FL)

RHP Robert Tyler, Georgia

There are another couple of prospects that could jump into that group as well, with RHP Connor Jones of Virginia and LHP Jason Groome of IMG Academy two guys with high upsides.

So any more info on "elite" prospects? I feel weird wanting to not win, but I am curious on who is available.

Won't know much until much closer to the draft. Guys will fall off as HS seniors, and several will make a big jump (college juniors, too). There's really not much point in even reading too much about it.
