2016 Payroll

Anyone looked at Jeff Francouer's current numbers in comparison to Heyward's current numbers?

Not claiming they are the same player, but just saying might want to look before you commit $200M

Since we're getting creative with money and stuck with a weak FA class we might take on a contract in order to get a major league ready prospect.

Or take back a bat that's not so close to the ML but has high end talent.

Maybe a Brewer deal where the Braves take Garza and his contract plus ss Lara for a bag of magic beans...

If only Francoeur was 5 years younger, could be counted on to duplicate these numbers or improve them, and was a world class defender.

I dont think Heyward gets 200 mil, i'd love to get him back but his market will be too expensive for us me thinks.

Francoeur and Heyward have similar numbers in the same way Joan Cusack and Zoe Saldana have similar faces.

Doesn't Braun make sense if we take on all his contract, therefore, reducing the price we pay in terms of prospects?

Heyward: .280/.337/.429 .766OPS, 21 2b, 2 3b, 9hr, 34rbi, 29bb, 15 sb in 350ab

Francouer: .270/.301/.471 .772OPS, 12 2b, 1 3b, 9hr, 33rbi, 9bb, 0 sb in 204ab

This season through tonight with Heyward on a MUCH better team.

If you sign Heyward to a big contract you are doing it based on potential NOT current fact.

See my point? You can't really be looking at those numbers and thinking they are all that similar, right (even discounting defense)?

Those Heyward numbers are also knocked down a bit. Need to recheck them.

Is that right? Heyward has 34 RBI??? Well, holy sh*t! Several astute forum members, with at least 6,000 posts/each, have irrefutable data that shows he should get $200MM over 6 years!!! He got a Gold Glove, just like McLouth.

Man. Remember when Francoeur had that 100 RBI season? What a beast he was.

Come on. Heyward has a marginally better BB rate (if you consider equal plate appearances) and a much better SB rate. Francouer has a significantly better power rate. RBI, which typically doesn't mean much, at least indicates a little since Heyward is on a MUCH better team with almost twice the PA and has one more RBI - again, I don't put much weight in that but there it is.

So, Heyward is a better base stealer (and baserunner if you want to count that) but isn't as productive with the bat, at least so far this year.

Now, I'm not saying Francouer is good. No. I am saying Heyward isn't nearly as good as he is made out to be.

My theory is that people see the potential and assume it's real or will one day be. I also think that his defense gets way, WAY overvalued considering his position (it's not like he's a short stop). Does he rune well? Sure, for a big man he'll steal you a few bases and take an extra base here and there.

But, Francouer isn't a $5M per year player and Heyward isn't a $20M per year player no matter the years.

Definitely! Jason's sitting at 34 on the verge of August with 58 & 38 over the last 2 seasons. That's Lou Gehrig territory!
