2016 Trade Deadline Rumors and Moves

Looking for positives . . . Kemp's UZR / 150 and DRS have improved each of the past 3 years. As I believe someone else mentioned, could have to do with better defensive positioning. Big reason why some teams discount defensive metrics a bit in their valuations.

Idk how anyone could be disappointed in this deal. I'm thrilled. Shoulda never traded Justin Upton. Kemp has that kinda power. Love this.

As I prepare myself for disappointment on the $ . . . If we do end up overpaying here, at least it's an overpayment of money and not high-upside prospects. Don't want to be wasteful with either obviously, but wasting $ somehow doesn't feel as bad.

I would agree. Especially in years where the team isn't likely to contend, imo. It also frees up overall money earlier as Oklahoma mentioned.

The thing is, it would take a lot for me to be disappointed with this deal (or Kemp for that matter). I don't expect a ton out of Kemp, but he does bring a decent bat.

Freeman has a better avg, but Kemp has more HRs and RBIs. Freeman is also abysmal with RISP.

This is the most laughable thing posted in a while, and I like the idea of trading Olivera for Kemp.

Btw, you forgot to mention how Kemp out grits Freeman in every way.

@grantmcauley ·

Taking just Hector Olivera's $28M out of $54M Matt Kemp is owed, #Braves could potentially have Kemp for $8-9M per from 2017-19 (age 34).

I don't think that math makes sense. Unless there is money coming back you are spending an additional 8 million to have kemp instead of oliveira. Which I wouldn't think you'd want to do.

The money coming back, I hope, is what makes the deal work.

Ugh. Not good. Not good at all. Not the end of the world, but not good.

HO is owed 20.5 million over next 4 years.

We are responsible for 42 million for 3 years for Kemp? So we are paying kemp 3/21.5 over what we were responsible for HO?

Yeah, instead we should've paid Justin whatever he wanted instead. :HeywardWut:

Heyward's been awful offensively this year.

JUp wouldnt re-sign before FA or to a rebuilding team. Trade looks good with the emergence of DPeterson.
