The Braves can afford it easily in terms of payroll, and who knows which prospects the Marlins or Mariners overvalue. It could happen, and would be awesome, but I have a feeling it would deplete the system too much as you suggest.

Newk plus Riley for JTR, Pache plus 55 pitcher for Haniger, pitcher for Gray to replace Newk. Something like that is feasible, but we know the Braves are hesitant to trade their few position prospects.

I think it’s either one of JTR or Haniger, and then the plan branches from there.

I think they'd trade for one of JT/Mitch, not both. They do have the farm to trade for both but i dont see AA doing that.

Reds already have Winker, Puig, Kemp and Schebler, as well as Senzel at some point. I think the Reds go for a SP if anything.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Reds just cut Kemp if they can't find an AL team to eat some of the salary.

I'm wondering why there hasn't been more talk of moving Julio? AA has to realize how replaceable Julio is at this point right? He has to realize that freeing up 10 million in payroll would be huge for us right?

Maybe there aren't any teams willing to absorb Julio's contract, but I'd almost be willing to attach a 40 FV prospect to him to move that money at this point if it were necessary. There are just so many things we could use that money on that are more attractive than Julio.

I’ve liked the Joc idea, but after the Dodgers getting rid of 2 outfielders I think the likelihood just decreased.

What if they land Harper?

Then they'd have Joc, Bellinger, Harper, Verdugo along with Taylor and Hernandez.

But i'd guess in that scenario they use Verdugo as trade bait to upgrade the roster somewhere.

Agreed but I can't lie that a lineup adding JD, Haniger, and Realmuto makes me a bit wet thinking about it

I think the Reds and Padres are convinced the second Wild Card spot is basically up for grabs every year now. Dodgers are going to win the West almost every year because they have money for days. Milwaukee made some trades and signings last year that catapulted them past the Cubs to win the division. Rockies aren't a big payroll team either but got a wild card spot.

We saw the Pirates make some aggressive moves at the deadline even though they didn't make the playoffs. I like that these smaller market teams are actually trying to go for it. Tanking for several years and then hoping for a sustained run isn't going to work for everyone.

The second wild card might be the best thing MLB has done for small/mid-market teams in a long time. We've seen a lot of teams still fighting close to the very end instead of just going into sell mode early.

and didnt a WC team win the WS a few years ago

Why are so many all about adding Stroman who's 5' 8" and 180... yet are so skittish about Sonny Gray because he's so undersized at 5' 10" and 190?

Just for clarification, Heyward is using an excerpt from this article: https://www.sportstalkatl.com/what-potential-blockbuster-deals-could-look-like-for-the-braves/

Its got to be the most hilariously stupid article trying to hypothesize trades that I've ever read, and that is saying something. He actually proposed that we send Soroka, Gohara, Muller, and Derian Cruz for Madison Bumgarner. Or Wright, Wilson, and Gohara for Robbie Ray.

Lol it is just soooooo bad.
