I noticed a mention from AA in one of Bowman's latest articles that this all may well drag into camp.

I get waiting the market out to get better deals, but making these moves so late is just begging to have problems pop up that getting things done by now would eliminate. If the OF is coming via trade and is Pederson or Peralta, they've always trained in Arizona, so not only will they need to find a place to live in Atlanta, they'll also have to find a place in Florida for the next month, get their kids set up with schools, figure out where things are in a new city, etc.. It's not a huge deal, but does make it harder for the player to adjust and perform with all that to deal with too. If they know where they're going to be by now, at least they've got a little time to get the other parts of their lives in order before spending a huge chunk of the next 8 months living away from home.

If any of these happen alone, AA is not going to be my favorite person. If we add one of these guys AND JTR or someone like that, sure, but this is not great news.

Parra would be a nice underrated addition. He seems like an AA move with how often he gets on base. I'd rather have him than Neck.

Parra is a nothing that you don't pay money for. You'd get better value with a AAAA guy at ML minimum.

All this rationalizing about possible scrap heap reclamations is really bizarre.

If the Braves leave ST with anyone of Markakis' value or below as a primary OF then AA has failed miserably in the offseason. It doesn't matter whether the prices are high or not. The window is open (regardless of whether you believe it should be) and real improvements need to be made. Since there is apparently no real money to actually buy your way to improvement through FA, then that means trade. And of course the prices are high in trade. Teams look at the Braves and see their financial situation and the fact that they really need to improve so they ask for as much as they think they can get.

The Braves are in a growth area of weakness. They 1. Don't have the funds to buy their way to better through FA 2. Don't have the internal talent at the right positions to fill from within and 3. Their trade chips are really all they have, everyone knows it, and they are on the wrong side of the pitching value pendulum. It's going to be costly. It always was.

Going into the season with BS outfield help because you don't want to trade away your prospects just says that you had no real plan to rebuild to start with.
 
A Parra/Duvall platoon is a pretty clear fail for a contending team with $40M in payroll space and a Top 3 farm system.

Parra is acceptable as a LHH bench OFer and nothing more.

All true, but I think if they are getting a million or so (more in the case of those two), I think they can manage.

Not much off-season talk about Adam Jones. He's kind of meh, but I'm surprised there hasn't been any buzz about him (except the fire at his house yesterday). He's been falling off in recent years, so he may be one of those big-time "buyer beware" cases.

I don't have a big problem with Markakis, but it would be nice to get some level of upgrade at the remaining cOF.

Don’t count out Gray in Atlanta just yet.

It seems like the Reds overpay is contingent on them being able to extend him

Dude how do you have this weird knack for latching on to awful additions and thinking that they would be a good add? Weren't you the one saying that Cargo would be an "AA" kind of move and now Parra would be. I mean, these are guys that have been borderline unplayable for a few years now. They have no business starting on a team that is contending for a playoff spot.

Yeah - I don't think it's a huge deal but do think it can adversely affect player performance at least early in the season - lots of *hit going on away from the park can't be helpful when you're trying to hit a 98 MPH fastball.

There must be something strange surrounding Jones that isn't discussed publicly. Either clubhouse concerns arose when he was stuck in Baltimore last season, he still insists on playing CF, still thinks he should get $10 million plus, something of a makeup issue. His production has slipped of course, but he'd still be a better fit than bringing back Markakis for my tastes. Sucks that he's right-handed, but he'd provide better pop and defense than Nick and would at least give opposing Pitchers a little pause from time to time hitting behind Freddie if they do decide to go Acuna/Donaldson/Freeman at the top. I know Acuna says he wants to keep leading off, but it'd be so much easier to balance the lineup with Ozzie or Ender there followed by Acuna, Freddie, Donaldson, Mac, Jones, Ozzie/Ender, Dansby.
