I started coming to the board 2-3 times a day during WM. Then when the "thaw" talk began, upped to 4-5 times a day. After this quote from DOB, I'm back to 2 times a day just in case something does happen like the Fish finally talk specifics to the Braves on JTR trade.

Anthopoulos already said next move(s) could be during camp.

DOB and Bowman have no clue what AA will do next. There wasnt much talk of Markakis then when it was done, Rosenthal broke it. Same thing with McCann/Donaldson. Whatever happens next, it'll come outta the blue.

Hope it's Realmuto though.

That screams just the opposite. Usually when something that extreme is said it’s usually the opposite. Look for a trade in the next few days.

Yep. Can't tell you the last time either one of them broke a story.

When does the "outta the blue" happen? The only thing I see happening before mid ST is a trade with the Fish for JTR and that will happen after the players report.

I can see a bench piece or a value BP arm. I think a SP move wouldnt happen til the trade deadline provided we would be in contention to do that.

If Kimbrel's market tanks, i could see AA throw him a 1 year offer.

Check his twitter, hes said before about the Dodgers that them and the Marlins have never made a trade since Mattingley got there, not sure why.
But there conversation between both teams and is strange his source don’t say anything about those conversations.

Rosenthal evidently has a good source in the organization.

Pre-dating AA, so it makes me curious who it might be.

So will we will have a lower payroll this coming season then we did last year or the same? Also isn’t this years free agent class considered superior then next seasons?

Next years is probably better to be honest.

5-6 solid SP's, three good 3B, a good SS in Bogaerts and Didi if Swanson doesnt progress, Puig/Castellanos/Hicks/Ozuna for outfielders, some relievers not as deep as this one but still solid.

Yeah the depth of next years class is potentially better than this year.

I am kind of curious what the long term gameplan is for Anthopolous. Is he sort of quasi-punting this free agent class, by signing short term contracts, to maintain the financial flexibility to commit long term to free agents next year or years after that? That would make some sense since there are probably more free agents who are in our league in 2019/20 class.

Or is this simply going to be part of the norm for him? Is he going to be a value-hound and is he going to be reluctant to hand out long term deals to any free agents. I think this approach would make some since as well. It would allow us to pivot quickly year to year and it would keep us flexible enough to extend some of our younger players if the opportunity arises.

Next year the FA class has several stars the Braves can afford. This year there were a couple superstars they couldn’t afford and then a bunch of flawed players the Braves chose not to invest in, and nothing in between.

Wouldn’t it have been a much smarter move for future revenue and on field performance to wait on signing JD and see if the market wasn’t as strong for Harper and Machodo as they thought, and then offered one of them a 1-2 year deal at 30-40 million per and went with one of them plus Camargo playing 3rd instead of JD,Neck and whatever else they add with the supposedly 10-15 million leftover?
It may be a moot point if they end up signing a monster long term deal soon but sure seems like the owners aren’t into that anymore and the opportunity was there to try something like that.

Closers are overhyped by nature, so yes... he's overhyped.

Sure if you want to be an asshole about it.

The fact remains that for pitchers with at least 1000 career innings Mo is first in FIP Minus at 62 and first in ERA Minus at 49 in the history of the game. Arguments can be made that elite starters like Clemens, Johnson, Pedro, Kershaw, etc could be better if they were to be able to go all out for 1 inning but as is Rivera is the best pitcher ever on a per inning basis.

Still shocked nothing has come out from jtr. He has to be pissed he is still on that team.

I wonder if he starts pushing the marlins to get him moved soon. I’d tell them I’m not reporting.

He’s been a good soldier so far.

How do you figure?

This is the second straight year he's done everything in his power to force a trade short of demanding one or not reporting. His agent has consistently put public pressure on the organization in the press, saying "I don't think he'll be with the team come Opening Day" and "he will not sign an extension under any circumstances".

This does nothing but put them at a further disadvantage when trying to get some value in return - that certainly doesn't scream "good soldier". If he wanted to move things along, it'd be a *elluva lot smarter to come out and say he'd consider signing an extension if he's traded - at least giving other teams the feeling that an overpay might be warranted.
