Question for Enscheff, or anyone else who wants to chime in.

What kind of package would it take to acquire Wil Myers?

Probably way more than he's worth.

Probably, and as much as I've been a fan of him, I wouldn't go there at this point - he's beginning to teeter on the edge of being so injury-prone that you simply can't count on him as anything more than a bonus when he actually can play.

The folks who have already chimed in are pretty spot on, but to answer the question directly...

Myers is owed $64M over the next 4 seasons. I have a hard time projecting him to produce 6+ wins over those 4 seasons, so I don't think he has much trade value at all. After he plays out 2019 for $3M, his contract becomes 3/61 and looks really bad.

Additionally, SD seems to have an inflated view of his value, so they won't be looking to move the contract for little/no return.

SD is such an odd organization. They hired Dave Cameron away from FG to run some part of their FO, and still signed Hosmer to that absurd contract despite Cameron calling him the biggest landmine of that FA class. If they weren't going to listen to a nerd, why hire the nerd? That organization is going to struggle for a while.

Enscheff hits the nail on the head with Myers. I always saw him as an intriguing option, but then the Padres signed him to a ridiculous deal. Once the ink was dry, he was off my list.

Kristen: What kind of deal do you see Pollock getting? My Rangers need a CF and a RH’ed bat next year.

Jeff Sullivan: Who knows what the market is going to look like this winter, but I could see Pollock signing for something like three years and $40 million. Solid all-around player but he’s going into his age-31 season and he had a worse second half

I've been operating under the assumption that Pollock would get something similar to LoCain's 5/80, but Pollock for 3/40 has to be a very appealing option. I would be all for that kind of deal if the Braves also acquired a legit 4th OFer to hedge against Pollock's injury risk.

Mike: What kind of return does Whit Merrifield bring in if the Royals choose to go that route?

Jeff Sullivan: Looking for two talented pitchers close to the majors

I saw some folks mention Merrifield. He has shown well in limited time in the OF. How would he fit if moved to LF and stuck at the top of the lineup in front of Acuna/Freeman?

What you think Michael Brantley will get? He's the one I want the most of realistic targets

These cOFer with injury histories and defensive limitations are very hard to peg.

On one hand I see him as someone very similar to Markakis 4 years ago when he got 4/44 as a steady and good MLB cOF.

On the other hand I also see him as very similar to Markakis today who will be looking at a 1-2 year deal in January or later.

The .350+ OBP would certainly look nice in front of Freeman and Acuna...until Snit bats him 4th like he did with Markakis despite a .150 ISO.

There are a lot of imperfect options below the Harper-tier, and it will be interesting to see how the Braves make this decision. There are likely trade options out there none of us have even contemplated yet.

Brian Cashman of the Yankees says they will shop Sonny Gray this offseason. He is coming off a season that saw him pitch to a 4.90 ERA in 130.3 IP. However, he had an 8.49 K/BB ratio and kept a 93.3 mph average on his FB....

He had a 6.98 ERA at Yankee Stadium with 11 HR's against a 3.17 ERA with 3 HR's against on the road....going into his last year of arbitration and will probably earn in the $9m area....if we move Teheran, I wouldn't mind taking a flier on him...

Anyone interested in buying low?

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman indicated Friday that trading Sonny Gray this offseason would be best for both parties.

It hasn't worked out for Gray with the Yankees, as he finished with a 4.90 ERA over 30 appearances -- 23 starts -- in pinstripes this season. He's arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter and could make for a good buy-low option for some team. Gray held a 3.55 ERA across 27 starts in 2017

I’d venture bravesfanforlife88 is.

Is there an argument for signing Brantley or Pollock and trading for Merrifield?

One argument would be that either Brantley or Pollock are big injury risks, so—as Enscheff’s noted—you’re going to want to hedge and boost the OF depth options.

3/40 would be something I would have interest in as well

I think AA has to avoid getting locked into a particular player...he should have a list and a price for each and go for the one whose price drops to what he is willing to pay

According to what they want. I'd rather have him than Sanchez

I we assume AA will try to follow the Dodgers model of 12+ starting caliber position players on the roster, then it certainly makes sense to go after 2 guys like Pollock/Brantley and Merrifield. Or Asdrubel. Or Descalso. Or any of the other 2+ win players who might be available.

A complete deep roster probably requires the Braves to add:

Everyday cOFer to replace Markakis
Half-time Catcher to replace Zuk
LHH 4th OFer to replace Duda
RHH 4th OFer to replace Duvall/Adams
LHH Util IFer to replace Flaherty

If Duvall or Adams are deemed acceptable as the RHH 4th OFer, that item can be crossed off the list. I'm skeptical the Braves will want to pay Duvall $3M, and I doubt they acquired him via trade if they thought Adams was good enough to fill the role long term.

If it is determined that Riley uis likely to push Camargo into the 2nd Util IFer role, then that item can also be crossed off the list. I think at this point that is a fairly safe assumption to make. At the All Star break they will likely reevaluate the 3B position once again.

Man, I really hope the Braves don't spend resources making lateral moves to players like Gray who are no better than the many cheap young guys they already have.

The goal should be to spend resources to improve the team's areas of weakness, not spend resources to get players who are no better than the guys already on the roster.
