Daniel Murphy 2-$24M with Rox.
DJ LeMahieu 2-$24M with Yanks.

Did the Rockies offer LeMahieu the same deal? Did he turn them down? Did he want to leave? Do the Rox think Murphy is better?

I think LaMahieu will do well in New York. It is a VERY hitter friendly park. Maybe as much as Coors. Also, the Yankees are in a better spot in terms of being competitive over the next 2 years

The Yankees announced today that they have signed RHP Drew Hutchison (1/10/19) and OF Matt Lipka (1/5/19) to minor league contracts with invitations to Major League Spring Training.

going all-in does not produce any guarantees...there is this strange misconception that shortening the window while modestly increasing the odds in a particular year increases your chances of a championship...

i think the smarter approach is 1) to focus relentlessly on value, 2) be realistic at the deadline (sell some years, plug weaknesses the years you are in contention), 3) avoid the risks associated with long-term deals that pay 30 something players big money...there is no magic bullet out there, but these common sense rules will increase any team's chances of success

A window is not a window is not a window.

I certainly agree that the goal should not to be to intentionally light the fuse on the dynamite.

I think it's more realistic to talk about 5 year windows than 10 year windows.

You can make moves that increase probabilities in the short term that don't put a built-in expiration date on the whole she-bang. You might reach one regardless of what you do though.

When you get near it, I think it's better to go ahead and do some re-tooling than it is to try and squeeze more long shot playoff appearances out of the club until you eventually reach the end of the line.

We aren't really too far apart on what we would do though, I don't think.

windows close for various reasons--old age, bad luck, bad decisions

the latter are what a GM has under his control

the Cards have shown that you can both win multiple World Series and keep that window open a long time

we also showed that it is possible to keep the window open a long time (and we did manage to win a World Series)

the Indians are currently in the midst of what looks to be a nice run even on a limited budget...remains to be seen if they will win a WS

There is not a chance the 2019 version of Russell Martin would preclude the #Dodgers from continuing to pursue J.T. Realmuto.

then follows up with...

On second thought, Martin can back up Barnes and #Dodgers, if they choose, can simply stop dealing with #Marlins. LAD excited about work Barnes is doing with their hitting coaches, think he can get back to 2017 production. They also have two top catching prospects getting closer.

Bow tie covering his bases lol

With the arb agreements, I have payroll at $108M. Opening day payroll for 2018 was $118M. Assuming a small bump up that would leave AA with 10-15M to play with.

This will take them out of the JTR race imo. I wish he would hurry up and get traded already. Miami has botched the piss out of this.

This would make sense as to why we have not made a move since November....I think now that AA officially knows where he stands payroll wise, we make our moves now.
