with JD at third and Camargo on the bench, we stop giving ABs to guys like Flaherty, Adams and Tucker

And fewer ABs to Culberson, who is likely to regress

When you look at it that way it becomes clear signing JD was a very good move. The price was good too.

I LOVE the Donaldson signing as long as we address cOF with a 3+ win player as well, which is looking far more difficult at the moment. If we do nothing else other than signing Markakis or something, then I'm not a big fan of it.

I'm still hopeful though that we can make a trade for that 3 win outfielder. I think there are several on the market that could be had for the right price.

If the Reds make a deal like that then they may seriously take the mantle of the dumbest franchise in baseball. They are seriously talking about trading 3 valuable assets for 1 year of Sonny Gray. That'd be on par with the Shelby Miller trade in my opinion.

If Pollock goes to LA it would increase our chances of getting Pederson or one of their other outfielders.

Long alone is a slight overpay for Gray imo.

With the money and talent we have to trade I have no doubt that AA will get a good OFer but if he doesn’t it’s a fail unless JTR is acquired also.

Spending the kind of money Pollock has been looking for on him rather than signing Harper when you have the money the Dodgers have just strikes one as beyond idiotic.

You've been to the World Series two straight years, reset your cap penalty, and have more money than God. Going out and spending $50-$60 million on a guy with a glass jaw that you hope can play 120 games a year when you can easily pay what Harper wants without it hurting (even a little bit) screams that you're making things too complicated because you're trying to show everybody how "smart" you are.

Yeah, he clearly would be. Long isn't a scrub. He's probably a top 150 prospect. If they gave him up, plus a pick, plus another minor leaguer that I'd presume would be on Stevenson's level.... Good lord that'd be a fleecing to end all fleecings. At least Miller was controllable at the time.

"We still have a lot of dollars to work with. We have a lot of young players available in trade. We're just going to need to continue to wait it out.
