2018 Offseason And Targets

The team is also old as hell. They will probably suffer injuries the worst of the lot and don't expect prime Cano unless he's back on his HGH diet. Lowrie was great last year, we'll see if it was a fluke at age 34. Frazier is on the decline. Their younger players are nice, but nothing special other than maybe Conforto.

I get it - They aren't a powerhouse and I'm not trying to make that argument. However, Cano was still a stud last yaer when he came back. Dude's a HOF and will ALWAYS hit IMO. Frazier stinks and the Mets would do well to play Lowrie at 3B everyday and just let Alonso play 1B.

Lagares has actually always produced when he played and is a great defensive CF. But he just looks like one of those guys that is always hurt.

Don't sleep on Rosario. I think that kid is going to be real good.

My preference is Kimbrel of course but as that doesn't seem to be the direction the front office wants to go then I'm not sure why Norris isn't already here.

What role does Solarte play? Who does he replace?

Switch hitter who plays anywhere. He can do more for our bench than Duvall or Culberson. And Bud Norris is better and cheaper than Kimbrel.

Actually, none of the injuries are serious.....I hope. But, ladies and gentlemen, that’s why we draft pitchers! You never have enough.

I think people are underselling the Mets.

The starting pitching won't be injured every year. Just by dumb luck they will have a healthy year. Wheeler was one of the best starters in baseball last year in the second half. The offense is significantly improved, especially if you think McNeil is a legitimate player. Conforto will have to stay healthy but he is a legit middle of the order bat.

Like the Phillies they have some moving parts to figure out but dont' underestimate a team that has that amount of top level pitching.

Mets, Philly, Braves are all pretty close, even if you have the Nats as favorites, i wouldnt say they're that much better than everyone else. Like someone else said, i think it's gonna come down to who stays the most healthy. Unfortunately everyone going down for the Braves.

I agree the Mets are being slept on, but they always have something go wrong.

I think people are too high on the Phillies right now. They were in the race so long last year it's easy to forget they ended up 80-82 and we're lucky to end there. Their Pythagorean record was 76-86.

By comparison, the Braves were 90-72 and has a Pythagorean of 92-70.

The Phils started the offseason at a big deficit. They had to add big to compete.

And while I don't normally put a ton of stock in team chemistry as these guys are professionals, the Phils might have an issue with it. The Phillies had a bad clubhouse last year, Harper is not known as a great teammate, Segura is known to be a cancer, and Kapler probably isn't enough of a manager of human beings to keep things even.

It's too early to hand the title to them.

They could still add a Keuchel or Gio but i'm kinda surprised they havent added another SP yet.

I think their starting 5 of Nola, Arrieta, Elfin, Pivetta and VV all made 30+ starts and there's no depth behind them and they traded their best pitching prospect in Sanchez. I thought their SP was a big problem last year and they've done nothing to this point to address it.

Yeah, I think the offseason fireworks have led the Phils to be overvalued a bit. I give a slight edge to WAS to win the division, but it could obviously unravel in a lot of different ways.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- As A.J. Minter walked toward the clubhouse after facing just one batter in Friday's 4-3 walk-off win over the Blue Jays, there was once again reason to wonder if Craig Kimbrel might eventually find a fit with the Braves.

The Braves have long indicated they would be willing to enter a short-term agreement with Kimbrel. But as the accomplished free-agent closer continues to seek a long-term deal, the two parties have not yet shared any serious discussions.

I've made enough money in my life, I don't need to make more. I said, 'My franchise value has risen dramatically over the last 25 years. I don't need it to rise more. If it does, fine. I'm here to win, and I think your guy can help me win.'"

Phillies owner to Scott Borass when he was recruiting Harper...
Will Braves fans ever hear anything like that in regards to our owners recruiting a free agent?

Sigh.....We can dream I guess...

I think it’s quite obvious now that Harper settled on an AAV of 25 million so it would lessen the payroll in two years and give them more money to spend on Trout and decrease the luxury tax they’d have to pay. I hate to say it, but it’s very likely Trout ends up a Phillie in a two years.

Yep

That went out with Uncle Ted's money, and not likely to return unless I become the first person to hit Mega Millions and PowerBall in a lifetime.

Law says Kimbrel and Nats are “further down the road” than most are reporting. I swear. If they get Kimbrel, this has truly been a failure of an offseason and AA needs to be fired lol
