I agree that Fried should be in the rotation bc he’s earned it. He has to much potential to stick him in the bullpen and he’s ready for the bigs. Teheran, Newk, Fried, Wright would be the 4 to start the year with me to see how Gaus and Folty progress

4 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 0 runs, 5 K's in just 30 pitches today.

For Max Fried today, has he done enough to win a SP spot?

Julio, Newk, Gaus?, Fried, Wright opening 5?

Replace Newk with Fried - find someone that's still willing to dream on Newk's upside and get a legitimate OF so you can cut Duvall.

If he has switched from that horrid FA to a SI then he is is absolutely a strong rotation option.

That’s all I want to see, but we don’t have that data for ST games. The results against the Nats AAAA team don’t matter to me, but the lack of walks is a good sign.

Is it possible Fried, Wright and Wilson have pushed Newk to the BP already? Is Newk headed there when Folty and/or Gaus are ready?

IF the pen is someone's perceived weak point on this team, we have guys like he and Wilson that can come in and be assets right away IMO.

If Fried develops the SI and its as good as I think it could be, he has the stuff to be a 3+ win SP. that type of arm doesn’t go in the BP.

There were bits of data that suggested he was toying with a SI last year, but it was very spotty data. Hopefully the new FO identified him as a candidate to change fastballs and hopefully he can make it happen.

Was referring to Newk but that brings me to this...

Would a player like Fried then use that 2 seamer in conjunction with the four seamer, or no? Like, still sprinkle it in 3-4 times a game as a different pitch or would they ditch it altogether?

Depends on how he can command it. A flat fastball well located at the bottom of the zone could work well with a sinker. Or one above the zone. But miss it in the middle and you are getting crushed.

Some guys use them to spot up every once in a while. I suppose it's worth keeping in his back pocket if he develops the SI.

There's zero reason Fried shouldn't be in the starting rotation. Dude is a beast.

Also, Riley with a homer. Weird hitter. lol

If I remember right...Riley is usually slow to get going, and then goes on a tear.

Honestly there is more than one pitcher that’s earned a spot. Really Allard is the only one that really hasn’t shown anything.
