2018 Offseason And Targets

I'm quite bullish on Mr. Teheran as well. I think he took the lack of playoff involvement as a clear wake up call.

I think he finishes with a FIP ~3.3.

So a career best FIP?

Over 180+ IP, that's 4+ WAR. You expect Julio to be 2018 Wheeler?

That would be quite the pitcher to pair with MadBum for the next 6 years!

Sort of funny being an optimist, relative to the board, after so many seasons of being labelled a pessimist about the team. But just as I think so many overreacted to the quality and ostensible rapidity of the rebuild, I think that same many is overreacting to the “quiet” offseason and its ostensible lack of quality.

As usual, fans overreact. What used to be constant homerific drooling over lists of prospects has given way to chicken little doomsday predictions.

Should the Braves have made more additions to augment a play off contending roster? I think the answer is clearly yes.

Are the Braves still a true play off contender despite being overly risk averse this off season? Again, the answer is yes.

You've really got to just start using normal names or abbreviations for Anthopoulos. DD was ridiculous and now it looks like you are ****ting on Freddie Freeman

I didn’t notice FF until today when reading one of my silly rants. Thought the same thing. So I do need to change that. When season starts I will be full homer with unicorn farts and skittle rainbows. So I won’t be as dark and gloomy in a few days.

Well, I am ready to ready to finish at best 2nd and worse 4th. Feel bad for Freddie. This FO didn't make this group better in any noticeable form unless Donaldson is the MVP or that caliber.

If he has a particular good bounceback year (and not that good, but reasonably productive), it’s going to be exceptionally awesome to read the same posters desperate to jettison Teheran as flotsam suddenly pondering or advocating for the Braves picking up his option or extenting him. Should probably steel myself for that now, just in case.

The folks desperate to unload Teheran at all cost are just another example of fan overreaction.

If they could have dropped his salary they should have.

He’s not likely to be very good and his money could have been better put to use retiring debt.

But likely they couldn’t move his salary.

They should have during the rebuild when his value was at its highest and he was unnecessary. Now, he's a decent back of the rotation innings eater on a contending team.

I don’t think it will turn out that he’s decent, but I will hope it turns out to be true.

I'll take that bet. He's an innings eater, inconsistent but capable as a back end starter. They didn't trade him at an optimal time so until he's traded you're gonna have to embrace it or post "he's terrible" all season.

most pitchers just take a while to develop and truly find their groove in the majors. a guy can have a great rookie season but then stumble for 3 years before finding himself. or be bad until 3 years in. we don't know what the team has in any of these guys really, so at least some of them aren't going to be very good. that feels inevitable. i'm excited to see what they've got and think they all have potential, but i'm worried that none of them will be able to step up right away. they're certainly not likely to be efficient and give you 200+ innings. and the braves kind of need at least one of them to.

Since Julio has consistently put up an ERA that is at least 0.50 lower than his FIP throughout his career, that means his ERA will be in the high 2s. About time he gets that Cy Young he so richly deserves.
