2018 Trade Deadline ROSTERBATION

The only downside of this deal is having O'Day take up 9 million of payroll next year. But we have plenty of flexibility next year and not a ton of spots of obvious need. Taking that contract is what allowed us to get Gausman cheap so I'm cool with it.

Also can flip O'Day in offseason and eat some of his salary if need be.

Yeah, and it fills a back-end rotation spot for next year at relatively cheap, as well as the extra pen piece. So it's basically starting the FA spending early.

With all due respect to the players we traded away, AA managed to turn chichen scheisse into chicken salad. That's a pretty nifty trick.

I have full faith in him now. He worked magic with these deals. Our team looks substantially better than it did pre-deadline at minimal cost. The only thing we couldn't pick up is a Camargo platoon, but hey, I'm cool with giving him the rest of the 3rd base at bats this year.

Actually the O'Day part is a pretty smart way to leverage the financial flexibility we get from the Kemp trade.

O'Day has still been a good pitcher even at 35. The injury was hamstring, and not an arm injury.

We will be overpaying some at $9M, but he has some value.

Gone
Matt Wisler
Lucas Sims
Jean Carlos Encarnacion
Brett Cumberland
Evan Phillips
Bruce Zimmerman
Preston Tucker
500K in international Bonus slot money

Acquired
Johnny Venters
Brad Brach
Adam Duvall (3 more years of abritration)
Kevin Gausman (2 more years of arbitraiton)
Daren O-day (1 more year left at $9M)

There's also another 2.5 Mio. int. bonus slot money going to Baltimore.

ok...now it makes a little more sense...otherwise its an obscenely one-sided trade...its hard to value slot money, but i think as a rough rule 1M has about 6M or so of surplus value

Find a taker for JT this off-season and it would cover it.

I still think its a pretty one sided deal, but yeah it bridges the gap a little bit I guess. I still think Orioles fans should be unhappy with it given what the Rays just got for Archer.

SJ where ya at? I can't imagine that even you dislike this deal right? I just can't get over how good of a job AA did this deadline. Sure, there were some screwballs thrown in there, but I think he hit it out of the park.

We're good on the 40 man roster with Sims, Wisler, and Tucker being replaced by Duvall, Allard, and Gausman.

We'll need to trim 3 players from the 25 man roster though.

I can live with this. We pick up a good starter and leave our top prospects alone. AA was in on everybody so I have no problem with any of it. Great job by AA.

I'm guessing the front office thinks Gausman still has some upside. He's still pretty young, has a big-time pedigree and his big issue has been home runs. Get him out of the AL East, maybe you can get that HR/9 number a little closer to 1.

AA's approach to the deadline seems like an attempt to provide reinforcements to a team he doesn't necessarily think is a playoff squad without really digging into the prospect stash too much. So you get some guys who might be able to help, make a show of good faith to the fans and the players and don't lose any of your meaningful future assets.

we now a lot of starters on the team. What will happen, when McCarthy and Soroka come back? Ok, Soroka will be sent to AAA.

Folty, Newcomb, Teheran, Sanchez, Fried, Gausman, McCarthy, Soroka!
