I could fix Heyward's swing in two weeks max.
Glasnow is likely turning back into a pumpkin. Last two starts have been bad and much more in line with the guy the pirates traded.
At 25, he’s going to go from a 5-6 BB/9 to a 3?
I think we know your position on the likelihood of that happening.
...
wRC+ and OPS+ stats for Heyward the last few years...
2014: 109 vs 109
2015: 121 vs 117
2016: 71 vs 68
2017: 88 vs 84
2018: 102 vs 94
Those values appear to track pretty well to me. How is one "pretty worthless" when it is very close to the "better stat"?
Heyward is not a good hitter by either measure. He has just gotten himself back to average after 2 full seasons of being pretty bad. He is 29. His defense is declining.
He is not a player the Braves should be targeting, regardless of how much some fans like him.
I honestly don't get why people are so in love with Gausman, he's a decent pitcher who can't go deep into games. Not a bad guy to have but he's hardly a prime asset, that's why we were able to get him for a collection of C/C+ prospects. He's kind of cheap but that's eroding quickly as he's already made 5M in arb.

Heyward for Fried and Gausman would be one of the worst trades ever, you trying to make Chicago win the NL going forward?
The people “in love” with Gausman don’t understand why you’re in love with Heyward.
I'm in love with Heyward at 12M a year. Would be a great shot at a bargain and if he ever refinds any old form he'll be one of the best deals in baseball.
Sadly what's going to happen though is we'll keep Gausman and he'll revert to his norms, we'll re-sign Markakis for more money than he's worth and he'll be miserably bad again, and all the while we'll be wondering, what if.
This.... was not.... well thought out. Basically what you are saying is that we make the Cubs kick in 50 million dollars just so Heyward doesn't have negative surplus value, and then give them Gausman (a solid veteran #3-#4) plus a top 100ish prospect in Fried just to sweeten the deal for the Cubs even more. For a player who hasn't produced over a 100 OPS+ since 2014 and has rapidly declining defense?
I think we have found the Cub's most expedient route to winning another World Series guys.

I don’t really understand what the Pirates were doing, but my baseline assumption is that they aren’t believers in Glasnow or Matthews.
Even so, putting those two and Baz in a deal for Archer is super confusing.
Gausman is easily more valuable than Heyward right now. I think Gausman will be a solid pitcher for us. Not "in love" with him, but do love that we bought low on a guy who still has some upside. Heyward only has downside from here.
Saying Heyward only has downside is a bit disingenuous. Heyward still has upside. And still has the potential to hit. He hit early on and for what ever reason you believe, lost it. The man has talent. I personally don’t want to gamble he re-finds that talent. But I wouldn’t be completely shocked if jhey has a better year next year than even this one.
