2019 MLB Draft Thread

I'm wondering if we are picking so many HS players today because the FO has analyzed the situation and concluded this represents a better way of doing business on day 3 or the FO feels there is a need to find a group of teen age players to replace the international players we can't sign at the moment. I'm hoping it's mostly the former.

It’s going to be fascinating to follow this crop of draft players to see how they all pan out... for better or worse

Just saw Contreras got the call to Double A...Does this mean they plan on starting Shea Langeliers out at Florida?

tough place to start a bat. I would guess Rome and perhaps a short stint in Florida, then up to Mississippi if everything goes all right.

Something to be said for taking high-floor guys, with a bit of ceiling, in the first couple rounds—if you’re not drafting in that very top echelon—and then spreading out dollars and risk across a lot of high-upside shots on day-three, where your scouting and models can do more work, and when your pool won’t be penalized if you can’t sign a guy.

Yea, I think it’s more about getting Contreras out of Florida than making space for Langaliers.

A 20-year-old catcher with good plate discipline, but not much else offensively, in the 21st. Seems like another org-filler guy.

I think the international sanctions are playing a bigger role than usual. I hate to see what the GCL roster is going to look like.

Would imagine we pivot strictly to signable guys the rest of the way to fill out GCL and Danville rosters. With all the question marks taken rounds 11-19, gotta be able to at least fill roster spots if a lot of those guys don't sign.

Am I crazy or are all three of the Day 1 picks likely to sign under slot? A million bucks or so could go a long way with the later upside picks.
