2019 Trade Deadline Thread:

I guess, but I wouldn't describe it as a need or something that I would be actively prioritizing. I like what I've seen from Duvall the past couple of days and I like having Joyce there as an option. Honestly, I think our lineup may actually improve with that tandem, as much as I love Neck. I'm also not too keen on paying the price for anything more than a rental, which would further limit the pool of candidates that I would consider.

To me, it just makes more sense to go after our obvious pitching needs. But I guess if we find a great value buy then it would make some sense to go after them. It does seem like a bit of a buyer's market for position players this year.

I think with Ender getting stronger and lifting weights, Snitker is going to give Duvall the majority of starts over Joyce instead of a strict platoon.

Morosi says the Mets have spoken more with the Padres than Braves about Thor. Mentions Atlanta is focused on relief pitching.

We have good depth pieces yes, but in terms of everyday guys, if you can get a Peralta/Castellanos/Puig and the price is reasonable. I'm all for it.

I'm not sure any of those guys represent a significant enough upgrade to justify the cost.

Castellanos is straight up awful defensively. Is it worth taking on that defense in order to get a guy who currently has a sub-.800 OPS? I don't think so.

Puig isn't as good of a defender as Duvall and he also has a sub-.800 OPS. Is it worth trading prospects and taking on an extra ~5 million in salary to get that guy? I don't think so.

Peralta is probably the best option, but he's had a pretty significant power dip this year and currently has an OPS of .808 in a very hitter friendly park, although he's actually hitting better away from Chase. He's solid defensively. He probably represents a slight upgrade, but I'm not sure I want to trade the prospects to get that extra year of control from him. I was all for him in the offseason, but right now I'd pass.

Honestly, I think Duvall and Joyce have a better than 50% shot of providing the same or more value than all three of those players.

As I see it, a reliever would take away innings from backend guys like Tomlin, Walker, etc.

A starter would take innings from Gausman.

And an OF would take ABs and defensive innings from Duvall and Ender.

I tend to take a longer view than most in projecting performance. Gausman is not the Gausman of today but of the past 2-3 years. Ditto for Ender and Duvall. So I have a bit more faith in them than the scrubs at the end of the pen. Plus in the case of Gausman there is Folty in AAA. I'm not saying the Folty of 2018 necessarily. But still a guy who can be useful.

My ranking of needs would be:

1) Pen (especially a lefty)

2) Starting pitcher if it is a clear upgrade (Stroman, Syndegaard, Boyd, Castillo)

3) An OF. I think Puig and Peralta would be helpful. But what they add relative to what we have in-house is not as impactful as say Vazquez or Leclerc or Giles being added to the pen.

Lol the Mets are such a trash organization. They are gonna get everything they deserve for making the dumbest GM hire in the history of sports. Brody is proving himself to be completely incompetent

My guess is that Thor is heading to the Padres.

Well.

As of this moment, #Mets and #Padres are not close to a Syndergaard trade, sources tell The Athletic. So, NYM’s pending acquisition of Stroman appears to be independent of any potential Syndergaard deal
