Pache reminds me of Carlos Gomez.
Pache has not exploded, but just keeps getting better every year. He’s known as a very hard worker and very coachable. His ceiling is so high...it’s batnuts to even consider trading him.
Waters has more attitude, but he is also so dang talented.
To me, you just can’t consider trading either of those guys, because there is a better chance than not...one of those guys will be an All Star.
I wouldn’t trade Riley either. I feel that he will improve yearly, because he has every year.
Move guys like Jenista, Duvall, Demeritte ...and the 100 pitchers we have. If that can’t get it done...just pass. We are set for years to come if we play our cards right.

I understand that mindset...but our competitive window is wide open now. We have pretty much everything we need except for a #1 starter. The guys you listed as tradable, even if you included all of them in a single trade, aren't bringing back an ace. The price for a guy like Syndegaard is going to hurt a little bit. The Braves have depth at CF, which just so happens to be one of, if not the greatest need for the Mets.

Sorry there’s no way you trade either Waters or Pache when we could have 2 glaring OF holes by as little as next year. That’d be really dumb considering they are 2 of the best OF prospects in baseball. That’s a good way to shrink your window real quick. Won’t be wide open long.

I'd prefer that offer over giving up either of the outfielders as well.
What I don't want to do is just get whoever we can for spare parts. I'd rather give up something that hurts and get someone that truly fills the need.

I look at Cleveland as a team that needs some of what the Braves have. I'm not sure that they have what the Braves need.
Cleveland could clearly use Inciarte and Camargo. But what do they have in exchange to give up coming back? They are clearly in the AL WC hunt and may catch the Twins who have a recent history of fading in the second half.

Would AA make a play for Kluber at this point?
Ender and Duvall might fix their OF for a second-half run, and you could add Wilson as a replacement arm. Would be an overpay according to the charts, but if he comes back healthy down the stretch he might be worth it. A Kluber/Keuchel/Folty/Soroka postseason rotation would be awfully nice. If they got 2 OFs, hung onto Bauer and Hand, and get a healthy Carrasco back you'd think they'd stand a decent chance to run Minnesota down unless the Twins make a couple pretty big additions.
Then turn around and go get Smith for the back-end with Wentz and Allard? Another slight overpay, sure, but it might be worth it if you could convince Smith to stay home next winter on a reasonable short-term deal.
AA would have to be willing to start Pache's clock this year if you did something like that unless he could pick up a scrap-heap CF to give Acuna several breaks in the second half. Maybe sweeten the pot with the Giants and get Pillar back in the Smith deal.

Agreed. Just don't see us matching up with them unless they decide to sell.
None of this feels like how AA thinks. While he is very analytical in his evaluations, he feels much more like LAD's AA than TOR's AA.
I think he wants to build the team today & in the future with young (from within or under the radar) talent and fill in the key holes with short term, high probability excellence. Any thing else is simply a math calculation.
Thus to get youth you have to go to a contender that is buying...our assets to sell there are limited (Ender, Camargo, Duvall, Gausman) and the teams are very limited (CLE, MIN, MIL, STL, CHI). I think Ende & Duvall are possible, but will not return anything we get excited about at this time.
To get final player (Rotation/Bullpen) it will be from a seller but he will not give away his future pieces...thus our assets are plentiful and not the ones we love to argue about (all our lower level 40FV+, blocked guys & been around guys more likely (Gohara, Demeritte, Davidson, Jackson types). If there are any surprise guys it will be some we see today in roles with available replacements (Touki, Wilson, Weigel, Ynoa, Sabotka). I think these deals are the most likely scenario.
Outside of those, I think any deals will be simply mathematical type deals like the Swarzak deal.
Basically, the NEXT big prospect he trades will be the FIRST big prospect he trades.
