2019 Trade Deadline Thread:

We could have easily topped this without gutting the farm or even trading one of our top 4 guys. Toronto may not have wanted to trade with AA. AA may feel ok with our current rotation options, or may just want to use our resources for bullpen arms. Either way, I expected Stroman to cost more.

Easily? Not so sure. I think Wright would slightly top what they got. And I was willing to do that for Stroman.

Its a good return. Although he hasn't cracked a Top 100 list, Woods-Richardson should be higher than a 45 FV. The Jays did well.

With respect to the Braves, I suggested a couple days ago Wright for Stroman. I think that would have topped what the Mets are sending their way. I'm not sure Muller or Wentz tops what they're getting.

What makes you so high on Woods-Richardson? I get that he is super young, but he isn't exactly lighting A ball on fire with a 4.25 ERA. I guess his K rate and his BB rate looks pretty good. I guess.

I still think they should have gotten a good bit more for Stroman.

Why do you cite his ERA. His FIP is 2.55 and xFIP 2.28. K rate over 11 and BB rate under 2. The ERA is an artifact of a high BABIP against. And the age is very young for the level.

Soroka was also drafted at a 17 year old and in his age 18 season in Low A put up a FIP of 2.78 and xFIP of 3.21. That was very good as an 18 year old for that level.

GB rate for Soroka as an 18 year old was 51%. For Woods-Richardson it is 49%.

Ahh good point. I didn't see that.

Still though, he's at best a fringy top 100 guy and the Jays should have done much better with so many actual competitors vying for Stroman. They basically sold him off to a team without a contender's premium when there were several teams presumably willing to pay one.

The Mets think they can make the wild card. They are gonna trade Thor for a MLB package or not at all. They really think they can make it. There is no other explanation.

The other guy, Anthony Kay, carries some value too. A former first round pick (#31 in 2016). Had TJ in fall of 2016, so he is a bit behind for his age in terms of development. Think of him as a poor man's Max Fried a couple year's into Fried's recovery from TJ.

This a nice deal for the Jays. They got something very close to the equivalent of Kyle Wright in value.

Went over to the Mets board, alot of them think they overpaid.

Take it FWIW but that package does seem a bit light to me. It's not an awful haul like the Gerrit Cole trade but seems light still.

Yeah, but was just Kyle Wright what was being discussed before this deal happened? I saw some packages on here that were suggesting Wright, Wentz/Muller, plus a lottery ticket. I think we had several on this board, probably including me, that would have been thrilled if we had gotten Stroman for just Wright and a 40 or 45 FV guy.

Verified writer for the NY Times- Told trading Syndergaard will be #Mets next move, not Wheeler. Makes sense.

Mets would be better off selling Wheeler and keeping Thor at this point, since they are apparently intent on competing the next couple of years. Signing Wheeler to an extension might be a better idea than trading him also since they have committed to this strategy (as dumb as it may be).

A couple days ago I suggested Wright + Davidson for Stroman.

Now that would have topped what the Mets offered unambiguously.

If Woods-Richardson was in the Braves system, we'd be spending a lot of time talking about him.

He's not a bad prospect, but i thought Toronto could have done alot better.

Deadline is on Wednesday, why do it now. Just weird to me.

I'm assuming Toronto informed all interested parties that they had to get their offers in. Stroman was scheduled to pitch tomorrow. That might have affected the timing.

Wentz, allard, soroka, and Wilson all had similar success in A ball. I just looked at our bigger name guys, so it doesn't seem that uncommon to dominate A ball for good prospects. I just wonder why they wouldn't want a guy doing something similar in AA or AAA. The jays have promoted their young stud position players so they should be looking for guys farther along imo
