2020 Trade Deadline Thread

Waters is better than any OF currently on their roster - especially in CF, and they won't hesitate to start his clock. He and Contreras add a TON of offense for them.

Waters and Contreras make their offense formidable - particularly with that pitching staff.

Waters and Contreras likely trumps other offers. Who's willing to offer that?

Huh?

Wonder if this could be a blockbuster? Indians top prospect is a lefty 3B. Ran this through MLB Trade Values (not that that’s worth that much)

Indians trade

Clevinger
Jones

Braves trade

Waters
Wright
Newk
Contreras
Davidson

Valued as a moderate overpay for us but it is trade season and you have to give to get.

Why would Cleveland trade their best prospect who might be their starting 1B, 2B, or 3B next season? They can decline Santana's option and play Jones at 1B and save $17 million for 2021.

I mean I’m not saying they would necessarily but in this case it would be because of the return they do be getting.

They're leading their division and have the best pitching staff in the game - their offense isn't great, but everyone needs to realize that they're better than the Twins as things stand today - this isn't a rebuilding team.

They can trade Clevinger and replace him with Plesac IF they get two pieces that can help their offense tomorrow - otherwise there's not a lot of reason for them to move Clevinger. "Rebuilds" don't have to be tear-downs.

And yet, here we are with them rumored to be trading Clevinger for a package headlined by a prospect who won't help them this season.

What in the world would Cleveland do with 3 SPs whose clocks have already started when they have no rotation spots available for the next three years? Carrasco is controlled through 2023, and the rest of their rotation are guys with less than 2 years of service-time.

Seriously???

Duvall and Ender have absolutely NO value - please don't try to include them in trades with contenders. Being a little better than what they've got right now isn't getting you a TOR arm.

Which is why I said as a throw in. It goes without saying that no one is taking Duvall (or Ender) as anything more than filler in any deal.

A team with a horrible outfield might prefer a decent platoon option to a 45 FV minor league pitcher as the third guy in a deal behind a couple of highly regarded prospects.

Cleveland would still have Bieber-Carrasco-Civale-McKenzie-Plesac as a front 5.

So i'm not sure pitching wise what we'd have to give them.

What part of that changes the fact that their best bet for winning it all would be to keep Clevinger and trade for OF help?

If Waters is one of the Braves' "untouchables", what makes you think he isn't OF help for them?

Their starting CF is Delino DeShields.

Any pitching they take would likely need to be spun for OF help. At least that's what the reports are.

They're not shopping him for marginal upgrades, sorry - if AA wants him, it's going to SERIOUSLY hurt and will probably cause this board to finally melt down.

A deal would probably need to happen in the AM so they can get talks in for an outfielder before the final deadline.

Most of the value in the package comes from Waters and Contreras. Davidson is a quality prospect and Wright and Newk are more lottery tickets that should at least be useable. I guess you could swap in someone else.

I could see Cleveland being interested in Gallo and using our pieces to help get him. But I agree about them needing to get something done to get other deals worked out.

I'm not saying I wouldn't do a Waters/Contreras for Clevinger deal - what I am saying is that if you do it you need to immediately turn around and start trading some of the Wright/Touki/Wilson crowd for position players if you can get anything for them. A Wright and Touki for Frazier deal might suddenly make sense.

The Pitchers in our system that have already been promoted have nowhere close to the value they had 6 months ago.
