2020 Trade Deadline Thread

I don't see us having the pieces to get Clevenger, but I don't know the Indians' MO. They are in the thick of their race and they need hitting and I don't see us having anything that would be of immediate help in that department for them. If they are thinking long-term, they are probably going to want one of our top drawer guys and that would mean someone in the Pache/Anderson strata of prospects along with Contreras or Langliers.

We have a top ten farm. Of course we have the peices, it’s just how many will we be willing to give up to make it work.

But I don't see us matching up for the Indians' immediate needs. The Indians are currently in first place in their division and their success has been pretty much pitching-based. They need a hitter (or two) and unless they see Waters (supposedly their top target) as someone who can step in now (which he probably can't at this point), I don't see how a deal with us makes sense for them. Long term is a different equation and, like you say, we do have the pieces. Given that we are woefully thin in the lower minors, I don't know how much sense it makes for us to throw a wheelbarrow full of prospects at the Indians for Clevenger. We likely won't have a Top 10 farm after such a deal.

Supposedly they would move pieces to another team to get the offense they need now. Which sort of makes sense when you think about it.

I have a good friend who works with the Braves often and he mentioned that he spoke with Drew Waters yesterday who said AA told him to not expect to be traded and that he and Pache were off limits in (almost) all trade talks. I’m not sure why AA would say that to a player but the guy is a legitimate source and friend and I’ve seen proof of these types of conversations. Weird.

That's true. I wonder if the likes of Wright and Toussaint are on anyone's radar. This would be more straightforward if Clevenger was on an expiring contract. I just don't see anything getting done without the Braves moving either Pache or Waters in such a deal.

Plesac is the guy I'd want to get from the indians. If I can get him and not use Pache, Waters, Catchers or Shewmake then I'm interested.

dude is good and and has like five years of control. He’s going nowhere

I would agree. But he's not really good. And they said there is no room for him on the MLB team at this time. And they clearly want to send a message about breaking protocols.

I just said that would be the guy I'd target, not Clevinger. Didn't say he's gone.

I don't think Clevinger is going unless they feel like they get an offer they can't refuse.

One of two things are likely to happen today...

1. The Braves don’t make any big moves (go small inexpensive trades). Guys will be pissed because even though we made trades, they won’t feel like it was enough to give us a legitimate chance.

2. The Braves make a big trade and we will be excited, but also likely sick about what we likely gave up.

As I said the other day....with the worst case scenario has happened to our rotation, I think for the first time....AA will be looking to add a real difference maker that will not only help us this year, but in the next few years to come.

It’s likely to hurt, but it should help us long term.

That will change once Clevinger is traded :)

There are other targets out there. Gasman. The guy from 24. Vio-Lynn.

I wouldn’t be surprised is we get Bauer and Gausman and Seager type guys today.

Yes I would still rather have Clevinger. But AA could spend less on those types and spread the risk out and not have it all on one guy getting hurt and being right back in this position.

I'm guessing a back-up OF and a starting pitcher on an expiring contract. We shed a ton of payroll, which may or not make a big difference as the state of the game has changed given the nature of the season. But I'm guessing that money will be invested in the rotation during the off-season.

Playoff wise the NL can go in a bunch of directions but the top 8 teams in the AL are pretty much set. Plenty of teams to target.

Murph3 here. Earlier mention about Clevenger and Lindor rumor. Would you do the following after considering all factors in play? Indians get Swanson, Ozuna, Flowers and Waters. Braves get back Lindor, Clevenger and Plesac. Indians desperate for offense, Braves desperate for pitching. Dont know all the ramifications of Clev and Plesac violations in the clubhouse. Lindor 1 more year. Money owed by Indians to the 3 equals $8.7M. Swanson 2 more years control. Shewmake in the wings. Flowers and Ozuna big upgrades offensively for what Indians now have. Waters a key part.
