2022 Trade Deadline

I mean, my first thought was, "but why?" However, he's been a 123 wrc+ as a RH batter for his career, and is producing to a 189 wrc+ clip as a RH this season; so it looks like the key is to ignore the fact that he's technically a switch-hitter, and assume he's the RH platoon partner for Rosario.

Would still like to see someone in the Happy class of player, who can play 2B for now but would represent insurance in case Rosario continues to play like crap.

Good call.. as RHH: .364/.479/.519

I’m getting the feeling that when the roster shakes out with the Grossman trade, and any other additional deal, that Heredia along with his sword may be the odd man out

So once Yates is back, here's where I guess it stands unless we get another hitter to ship out Heredia:

TDA
Olson
Arcia
Swanson
Riley
Acuna
Harris
Rosario/Grossman
Ozuna

Contreras
Adrianza
Heredia

Fried
Morton
Wright
Strider
Anderson
Odorizzi

Jansen
Minter
Matzek
McHugh
Lee
Chavez
Yates

Smith for a #4 SP seems like a way to dump that contract, and I'm all for it. I imagine it means either Strider is going to the BP to limit innings and/or Soroka won't throw a single pitch this season.

Grossman is, in fact, Rosario's new platoon partner (.348 xwOBA vs LHP in 2021/2022). He was acquired for nothing, so it's a great way to fix Duvall's spot on the roster.

While these are very solid moves I have to admit I was hoping for something a little more impactful...especially for a team that should have plenty of cash to burn. No way I want to see Grossman in LF everyday if Rosario fails to improve.

Grossman has hit in the past, but he's been incredibly bad this year. Still drawing walks, at least?

Walk rates down a little bit, but still good. He just isn't barreling the ball nearly as well this year, which appears to be why his production has dried up.

But his iso is still respectable against LHP, and I have to assume that's what Anthopoulos was Anglin for with this trade.

I think he could have one more up his sleeve tomorrow for an OF to replace Heredia. Agreed on Strider and that Soroka may not throw a pitch this year. I thought originally they might play around with having Strider and Soroka essentially split starts in September, where one would throw 3-4 innings and the other would throw 3 or so.

Same… I like to think I at least know most of the guys in the minors but not familiar with Anglin at all
He was aJUCO signing out of HOWARD U. Smallish pitcher if I recall but decent to good stuff. Dart throw but he was signed as a lower round guy. I liked him.

Basically no one on the Tigers has hit a lick this year. You have someone named "Harold Castro" putting up a 106 OPS+, another rando named "Eric Haase" also with an OPS+ of 106 (and a name that makes him sound like he should be shouting "I was just following orders" at a tribunal in Nuremburg) and then Miguel Cabrera with a 94 OPS+ and a cool .344 slugging percentage. Hell, maybe there's just a disease or something in that clubhouse that Grossman caught.

I think it's just as possible they go to a six-man rotation to limit Strider's innings. Odorizzi gives them the flexibility to do that, while also giving them depth to push Anderson out of the rotation if last start was the aberration, and not the start of fixing his problems.

I don't think it will be a straight 6 man, but some creative ways to skip starts for guys...mostly resting Strider. Or they BP him for a month and ramp him back up in September in time for the playoffs. Either way, it will limit his innings.

Or....someone like Anderson is about to be used in a huge trade and Odorizzi is his short term replacement. No idea where that bat would go though as I don't see a need to upgrade over Heredia, who should be the short side of a platoon with Harris.
