2022 Trade Deadline

I got all excited today only to realize the Trade Deadline is actually tomorrow! Ugh.. I don't like this moving-target date.

I'd imagine this will be the case - with Adrianza filling in here-and-there.

Just a guess - and we'll likely never hear about it even if I'm right - but this was probably entirely about getting Cano out of the clubhouse before he caused a stir and Alex had to admit it was a mistake to bring him in to begin with.

Sincere question here…I’m curious as to why people think Taylor makes sense? I’ve heard “defense” being thrown around but our current LF struggle to hit consistently…adding Taylor would be the same. Rosario can glove it fine…I’m just confused.

Rosario's "OK" out there - in the sense that he's better than having Ozuna playing defense. Unfortunately if Eddie's not hitting, you're probably better off with a serious defensive upgrade out there - trying to save more runs than the two of them would let in defensively improves your club as well.

Neither of those guys are contributing much with the bat right now, so you improve your run-differential by allowing fewer runs to score. Taylor's having close to a career year, and his .348 OBP would be a lot more helpful than Rosario reaching 2 of every 10 times as well.

Like Enscheff said (and I mentioned earlier as well), this team doesn't need to add impact players that are "stars" - it has plenty of them even without Ozzie and with Acuna struggling. Alex needs to add around the edges to improve the depth so that some of these guys can be rested and get healthy by the time October rolls around.

Rosario is not fine defensively. He's acceptable if he's hitting. If he isn't not hitting, he doesn't need to field.

Taylor also is hitting pretty well this year.
 
Fine with bringing Adrianza in over Cano. Obviously hope there's more coming as far as a roster upgrade over Ford. Whether that's an OF who can hit and defend or a third catcher that allows more flexibility to get Contreras in the lineup more regularly and live with Ozuna in LF some.
 
Trey Harris is barely a "prospect" at 26 with poor production in the minors. I have no issue losing him. But even still, I feel like he was an overpay for Adrianza. I don't see what value Adrianza brings to this team at all. I'm genuinely surprised he was not DFA'd by Washington before now.

Teams are being told they have been eliminated from the Frankie Montas derby suggesting a deal may be close, Yankees are among teams still in.
 
Heyman clearly has someone in the Yankees front office who is trying to cook the situation. His saying that teams are being told that they're out on Montas but that the Yankees are among the teams still in makes literally no sense.

I'm not a huge fan of acquiring Michael A. Taylor, but there is some solid logic behind him as a target:

1. He plays excellent defense (but so does Heredia)
2. His 2021/2022 xwOBA vs LHP (.321) is better than Rosario's (.303) and Harris' (.237) so he could platoon (but so could Heredia at .319).
3. His overall 2022 xwOBA is .306, which is almost playable full time considering the defense if Rosario continues to be bad (Heredia at .280 shouldn't play everyday).
4. He shouldn't be expensive to acquire in terms of prospect capital.
5. He always has that A in his name for some reason, and I'm sure "the A" references will be everywhere.

So to me, Michael A. Taylor overlaps too much with a player the Braves already have in Heredia. Harris needs a platoon partner in CF for the playoff push, and that partner should be Heredia, and it should start happening in September to prepare for the playoffs.

Rosario also needs a platoon partner too, but I'd like to see AA shoot for a little more offense in LF because that platoon partner may have to end up playing everyday if Rosario doesn't round into form. Ideally, this newly acquired LFer is good enough to bat 5th or 6th...meaning a legit 5 or 6 hitter for a championship club.

The Brewers are “close” to moving All-Star closer Josh Hader, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The Padres are “strongly” in the mix for Hader, he adds.

Taylor Rogers expected to go back to Brewers, along with prospects…
 
Passan on Hader return: The return on Josh Hader to Milwaukee is significant: left-handed closer Taylor Rogers, lefty pitching prospect Robert Gasser, outfielder Esteury Ruiz and right-hander Dinelson Lamet, sources tell ESPN. Hader will be a free agent after the 2023 season.

I don’t think we’re trying to upgrade over Arcia with this move but Adrianza can at least play all over the diamond if needed. We don’t really have a player available with that kind of flexibility.

Honestly think they were just looking for an excuse to cut bait on Harris - he's probably a victim of the number of corner guys at this point. With Malloy moving to LF, this opens up ALL the PAs they want to give him in Mississippi. When Franklin returns next year, he'll probably exclusively be a corner guy. This gets Harris out of the way in the event Mezquita finishes strong and they decide to be aggressive with him next season as well. There's also Brandon Parker to consider, and there's probably a non-zero chance they try McCabe out there for a bit also.
