The player Philly traded away is 8th in Detroit's system right now. A bag of balls is a stretch.
Bowman: The Braves have Morton and TBA listed for tomorrow's doubleheader. Strider is sick, so he's pushed back to Wednesday. They are out of arms, so Kyle Wright could end up starting a game tomorrow.
Since the deadline we are 6-5 in starts by pitchers other than our top 4. Wright seems close to back. Did we really need someone like Lorenzen?
I never said that the Braves were in any danger of losing the division. I can even be quoted as saying at the deadline that if it is not an ace then the Braves don’t need him. But I might have been wrong. The starting pitching is very thin right now and I hope that the Braves don’t push guys and jeopardize health in the playoffs. I mean if twit pushes mort to 115 pitches because he knows he has hot garbage starting in game 2. Well that could hurt if mort goes down to orb shoulder fatigue. So questioning the decision not to get some reinforcements is dumb. It is quite legit imo. We all remember what a strained oblique can do to playoff hopes.

The braves keep pushing guys back a day for more rest. Morton hasn't pitched since last Sunday, so he's going on a full week of rest
ok, but if the Braves are pushing guys back for rest, then how are they out of arms and possibly going to rush Wright back.. I think guys are getting pushed because of matchups, but also illness and possible fatigue. Wouldn't skipping starts be more effective for a pitcher versus just pushing a day. I mean if they are truely doing this to 'rest' pitchers.

I also agree with not getting a SP... I just think it's lame that he goes out of his way to call anyone out who criticizes the team. I don't see how anyone can defend the Murphy usage... he's obviously a much better player when he's playing regularly and struggles when he's not getting regular at bats. Did we really sign a platoon catcher to a 6 year extension? Not to mention we traded significant capital to acquire him.
I buy that playing more regularly might keep sharper, but I think that argument cuts both ways. Murphy’s having a career year with a reduced workload. Which one is it?
The six year extension is exactly the reason I support playing TDA as much as possible while he is around and still effective. Every game we save on Murphy is less wear and tear on his body which might prolong his effectiveness.
With that said, let me echo the point I think everyone agrees with. Murphy should be playing every game in the playoffs.
Try and attack the argument I’m making instead. Shouldn’t be that difficult right?
I thought AJSS was shut down from shoulder fatigue… guess it didn’t last long
We aren't "out of arms" despite what Bowman says. I think it's pretty clear that AJSS is starting game 2 today.
I know we've been throwing rookies and castoffs every 5th day (and 6th sometimes), but that's because we have the luxury to do so. We are managing innings, simple as that.

Yes the “career” part of his year came when he was playing more regularly in the first half. He’s been pretty bad ever since we decided to basically platoon him and TDA 50/50
Lorenzen was had for a bag of balls. And it is not if he was better than mort or elder. Is he better than Shuster or Dodd. The fact the Braves are running out of arms and rushing wright up tells me that the Braves should have seen that Shusterand Dodd were not mlb pitchers and gotten a scrap heap type to pitch. They don’t need a playoff ace. Just some guys to finish out the season.
It really isn’t a big deal and not something to bring the pitch forks out. But yeah I think I was wrong too when I said at the deadline that the Braves don’t really need pitching.
He has a 131 wRC+ since Aug 1st.
