It would have to divest the US portion of its business?
 
At one time, I believed Trump was an outsider, but now I know he's just another politician. He'll change his position to whatever helps him get power. I'm so disgusted that these 2 are our choices

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., has come out against a ban on TikTok, breaking from his GOP colleagues on a measure that would prohibit the use of the often-criticized social media app.

Lawmakers cited national security concerns raised by TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, after reports emerged that the company has gathered user data and spied on some journalists.

In an opinion piece published Wednesday in the Courier Journal of Louisville, Kentucky, Paul argued that banning TikTok would mimic censorship by the Chinese government. He cast the question of whether to ban the app as a free speech issue and said he would defend it even against members of his party. Paul has maintained that his opposition is not due to the ties of one of his top donor's to the company.

"I hope saner minds will reflect on which is more dangerous: videos of teenagers dancing or the precedent of the U.S. government banning speech," Paul wrote. "For me, it’s an easy answer, I will defend the Bill of Rights against all comers, even, if need be, from members of my own party."

He added: "If you don’t like TikTok or Facebook or YouTube, don’t use them. But don’t think any interpretation of the Constitution gives you the right to ban them."

I find myself in the somewhat surprising position of agreeing with Trump and Rand Paul here.

There are some issues that deserve to be seriously considered but I don't think a ban or even a forced divestiture is the correct way of proceeding.

If tik tok is doing anything illegal we should enforce our laws. If it is doing something legal but problematic we should enact and enforce some new laws to deal with the problem.

What do I have to justify?

I've said from the very beginning I'm a believer in vaccines for people that need it.

I know thats hard for people to reocncile when they get blasted with influencers designed to sabatoge Trump.

Trump is a free market guy as long as one of the players in the market is not a CCP dictatorship.

You know - As sensible pragmatic approach like he does with everything.


What we do need to understand is if there is a coordinated operation to target young people and poison their minds. But that same understanding needs to happen with Facebook/X/etc...

I think this is a fair question but then you open up a logical argument why do some get to stay and some don’t. It also incentivizes illegal immigration if you can hide for long enough.

Overall though there is an argument to keep people here that committed no crimes (outside of crossing illegally) and have been productive members of society.

But your actual question is once you’ve attained legal status (citizenship) you’re here for good.
