2025-2026 offseason thread

Find all the other Latin stars who have had each knee rebuilt within the last few years, and then note how many of them are playing winter ball.

There is no defending this. Acuna is a moron, and the Braves seem unable to rein him in.
Add in he was limping from an Achilles strain half way through the season.

I mean, Acuna is 28 years old, he has nearly 30 career WAR, he's won a Rookie of the Year Award and a freaking MVP, he's made five all star games in eight seasons, and if you put together a word cloud of terms used to describe him on this board the largest clouds would almost certainly be "idiot," "moron" and "stupid."

You can love a player and still identify he can be maddingly frustrating at times.

He gets picked off or caught in a rundown WAY more than a guy that plays 300 games a year should.

It doesn't mean I'd trade him for anyone.

So he's beyond criticism bc he's good?

I would suggest that, while I don't know Ronald Acuna personally and can't in any informed way speak to his overall level of intelligence, he's probably not stupid, an idiot or a moron. I would suggest that calling the best player on the team a moron because he likes to play winter ball goes beyond normal, healthy on-field criticism. And I would suggest that we perhaps have very different standards for criticism if you think "Ronald Acuna is stupid" is a healthy way for a fanbase to talk about the team's best player.

It's clear the Braves do not want the blow back from preventing Acuna from doing this. Neither from the MLB nor from the locker room by pissing off your franchise player.

And this is all pretty overblown. I can assure you that tons of players around the league are not sitting around in a protective bubble in the off-season. Acuna isn't the only MLB latin star that goes home to play winter ball. I remember reading a few yeas ago about a Phillies player that did competitive MMA in the offseason. Victorino or Pence maybe? Can't remember. And in the NBA, players play pick up games ALL the time in the off-season.
Didn't andruw and Manny Ramirez and others do this back in the day? I think it's a big deal.

I don’t know how intelligent he is outside of baseball. And I don’t care. He might be solving cold fusion containment as we speak. Again, I don’t care.

I do know he has a horrid baseball IQ, as evidenced over and over and over by his on field actions. So yes, in terms of baseball, he is an absolute idiot. It’s the job of the people paid to be non-idiots to mitigate that fact. They do a poor job of it most of the time.

The fact that he got into a run down and tore his other knee up in SPRING TRAINING should tell everyone all they need to know. It also tells you all you needed to know about the brain trust leading the team.
