I love Jacob..wanted him before Texas signed him.. but we also know Lopez is elite when healthy.. so is he worth 50 million more over the expected production of Lopez. I agree that Jake is less risky than Lopez.. so I think it is a legit debate and I can argue for both sides..

I just don't see the Braves doing something like that and would just gamble on Lopez returning to form for 50 mill less.

Lopez has history of 1 season being a really good starter and proceeded to blow out his arm

No we don't know that. Lopez threw only 135.2 innings. And while the underlying stats were good, it was the first time he had been a starter in years and he struggled to even get through 135 innings healthy. Then he had shoulder surgery this year. So we certainly don't "know" that Lopez is elite even if he is healthy this year. There just isn't a long enough track record.
 
I suppose you could just get Texas to kick in money, without trading Lopez. And then you have DeGrom and Lopez. I just assumed the prospect cost would be higher that way.

Lopez doesn't have much value with the injury issue, but Texas need will need a SP replacement anyways and at least Lopez gives them some upside.

“He’s a pitcher who has thrown over 130 innings exactly once since 2019” also describes Degrom. At least Lopez had the excuse of being a swing man and a reliever.

That is certainly fair. But I would hold that against Lopez more than I would credit him. He simply isn't used to being a starter the way DeGrom is. And the first time he gets stretched out to be a starter he struggles to stay healthy, and then the following spring he tears his shoulder. Either way you slice it, Lopez is a far greater risk.
 
I know Seager is 31 annd owed a lot but he's the type of hitter that changes the entire lineup. We'd have Dubon to give him some rest. If we could get Texas to eat some money I'd be all over it.
