2025-2026 offseason thread

it wont happen but a top 4 of Acuna, Seager, Riley, Olson would be insane.
His last year and then 10/5 kicks in and if he were to fall off a cliff (I don't think he will anytime soon) then that contract can't be moved. Texas would be smart to trade him go and snatch Kim up and get the prospects from Seager. Win win for them. AA I think wants to make a splash after getting ripped for being terrible the past year and a half.

The Braves, Yankees and Red Sox have all inquired about Corey Seager, per Boob. No hard discussed are active, though.
This is very interesting because Texas is supposedly looking for a catcher, so a trade built on Murphy and Seager at least makes sense on paper. If I were TX and I could buy low on Murphy, unload the Seager contract, sign Kim, and get some prospect capital....I'd have to strongly consider that plan.

With a super solid utility guy like Dubon on the roster, treating Seager with kiddie gloves is something the Braves can do so he's at full strength in October.

Like others have said, the rebuild is coming in a few years, so it doesn't really matter what portion of Seager's contract ends up being assumed. The main issue is the NTC to the Braves, which seems to be a legit preference since other contenders like the BoSox and Yankees aren't on that list.

Obviously the Rangers would seemingly have to kick in a lot of money to convince Atlanta, who was unwilling to pay for Seagar's prime years just a few years ag because of back end contract risk, to acquire the post-prime back end contract risk.

Unless the reluctance was to continue bidding up the price and this number seems reasonable now. But doubt it.

I will say the idea you can just trade off the bad years of long co tracts when you feel like it is probably just a little optimistic.

I guess Seagar could bounce Riley to DH at some point or do it himself but seems like that would be a tough old folks home by the end.

Over the last 4 years, Alonso and Schwarber have more or less been the same offensive player. They just got the same contract yet Alonso is 3 years younger lol. The Phillies are so frigging dumb,

Decent deal for the Orioles. Alonso is terrible defensively, so it's still quite a lot to pay for a DH, but at least they aren't paying a DH 30 million when he will be 37 years old, LMAO. And at least Alonso can cover 1b if needed. Whereas Schwarber is completely unplayable defensively.

I just did a quick photoshop of Alonso in an Orioles uniform:
