2025-2026 offseason thread

Bryce Elder is out of options also so he will probably start out in the bullpen. If we don't get another SP it'll be Sale, SS, SS, Lopez, and Waldrep with Holmes, Elder, Ritchie, and Wentz as depth. The depth is a lot better than last year but I feel like we need one more SP.

Like Cheff said yesterday, if the season started today we've only added a BP arm. A bottom 4 of Harris, Albies, Yaz, and Dubon is pretty rough for a team wanting to compete for a WS. Harris and Albies I think will rebound some but the other 2 aren't full time guys on a WS hopeful team. If they end up as depth pieces then that's perfectly fine but SS has to be upgraded and another SP is needed or this has been another fail by AA.

I do not thibk Lodise has any bearing at all in this offseason. There is no reason for the front office to make any plans based on him becoming a MLB player.
I was thinking in terms of years on a contract. You don't load up on college middle-infielders in a draft and then totally ignore what you did.

I’ve actually come around a bit on Weiss. I think they’ve surrounded him with a great supporting coaching cast. He’s also sounded pretty good in the interviews and saying all the right things about analytics and learning, etc… I think he may surprise us. I certainly won’t fault him for not succeeding in Colorado.

Seeing the staff they’ve surrounded him with gives me hope for the same thing. If grandpa has really smart grandkids around him, he won’t be so confused by the DVR and WiFi. I hope that’s how it plays out overall.

Hoerner would be a good SS for us. I know they want Sp bad. If we could expand the deal I might be inclined to offer Waldrep. I really like Cassie. Ballesteros would be interesting as a DH bat and emergency catcher. Jonathan Long could be the RH platoon for Yas.

While I understand your point, there's a substantial difference in spreadsheet comfort between somebody born in 1955 and 1963. For instance, I can, in fact, work through my own Wifi and DVR mysteries. We were early adopters, perhaps not as facile as your generation, but I'd be willing to bet WW is farther up the curve than Snit was.

Yeah Waldrep turning the corner last year is gonna be hard to let go of unless it's for multiple years of control. If we are gonna make a big trade for somebody just see if the Angels would trade Zach Neto. That dude is legit and is only 24. The Angels aren't going anywhere right now so they might be ok with some guys further off and just in the minors.

Why TF is everybody interested in moving Waldrep? The guy figures it out and then we're going to move him? F@#$ that. Just sign Kim and forget about Hoerner and Neto. They aren't that much better than Kim. And in 2-3 years, one of our SS prospects should be ready to go.

Listened to a podcast with Robert Murray, well connected around baseball. Said he's pretty confident we'll add a SP, but you know with how tight lipped AA is for information, it's anyones guess who they add as a SP. Same thing with SS as well.

Depends on what Kim wants. If it’s $15m it’s a no-brainer for me. But I think Boras is holding out for more. My gut says he’ll be back.

56 innings isn't really enough data to tell whether or not he figured it out. And even if he has figured it out, what exactly does figuring it out mean? It's unlikely he is an Ace level pitcher. So is he more Logan Gilbert or is he more Bryce Miller? Both are valuable pitchers (or at least they have been), but you're probably not building around Miller long term.

These are the assessments the Braves have to make on guys like Waldrep. Certainly we would have been better off selling high on guys like Anderson and Elder when the data showed they were likely more likely to be back of the rotation pitchers. I would include Wright as well, but Wright blew his shoulder out before we could see if he could build on that one season of success.
