We don't know they "backed down." Hell, the Yankees haven't done a damn thing. The Cubs are letting their stud hitter walk and the Mets have not signed anyone notably outside of Williams while getting rid of like 12+ WAR.

Most of what we've heard about Imai so far has been from U.S. media... Seeing stuff like this from international folks has more merit to me.

They haven't thrown money at the top relievers, despite needing relievers. They haven't thrown money at any of the other top SPs right now either.

There have already been reported concerns about whether his stuff will be successful - to the point where now the speculation is he won't get a nine-figure deal. So I think it's reasonable to question why the Braves, if they get him, will have won out over these other teams who need starting pitching worse.

Any Japanese player that doesn't sign with the dodgers, I'll just assume he isn't an elite player. If he signs with the Braves, I'll certainly hope I'm wrong

What does that have to do with Imai? It's understood Imai has to sign by Friday. The Yanks haven't made any significant moves. The Mets haven't either. The Cubbies are letting their big star walk.

Maybe they aren't interested in throwing around a ton of money this off-season. Or maybe they're focused on other needs.

It doesn't, but with the guys who are considered above Imai, there was no need for them to immediately throw their biggest offer out there right away unless the player let it be known he just wanted to sign somewhere right away.

LOL, just stop. Teams haven't all of sudden changed their opinion of this guy. It's the same data that has been available for months.

You're acting like these teams don't have other options on the market.

One would have thought the Braves would have been all about signing/trading for a SS and high end relievers last off-season. We didn't do jack shit.

Just because a team is a good fit for a player, doesn't mean it should raise eye brows when that particular team doesn't have any interest in that player.
