2025-2026 offseason thread

Braves are gonna end all hope of this core doing anything this season. It will be injury after injury like it has been for years now

The Brewers make these moves and are consistently good enough to get bounced in the playoffs by teams with the type of guys they trade away once it becomes clear they won’t be able to retain them.

20 days until pitchers and catchers report. Today would be a great day for AA to take stock of the last two years and realize there’s no way the current pitching depth will hold up.

AA has played the market fairly well. Sammon said the Mets are likely done in the rotation and the Dodgers are apparently out on pitching. So, the remaining pitchers are going to want a deal fairly soon... I'm hoping Atlanta can jump in on Bassitt ASAP. I'd still be happy with Framber, but I'm guessing that's unlikely.

Framber will be a Philly or a Met. Same with Gallen. Bassitt is still the best bet, but we might need to try to wait it out until the week before spring for his price to drop enough.

Anything can happen, but two good beat writers said the Mets are happy with their rotation and don't plan to make upgrades unless the deal is just too sweet for them. Philly is an odd one. Passan mentioned they're not "in" on anyone else right now. It really was Bo or Realmuto (as backup). But GMs and owners can get desperate at any moment. I think Framber goes to the Orioles or Giants. Gallen to the Cubs. Bassitt or Jose Quintana to the Braves.

Would you defer your salary for several years?

Its not a good deal for the player.
If the net result was a larger amount of money after accounting for an apocalyptic discount rate sure.

I assume that's why the free market counter parties with enormous amounts of leverage are agreeing to sign up for it.

Bassitt is fine. But I think AA is still working on a trade for a TOR starter.

I think a trade with the Twins is still on the table for one of their top arms. IMO, we're a really good match with them, in regards to both MLB ready talent and talent that is a few years away.

I also think a trade with the Mariners makes a lot of sense too. Gilbert or Kirby would be the primary focus. We aren't a super great match, given our lack of MLB hitting prospects, but Nacho should have a least a little value to them as an option at 3b or 2b. Luis Castillo is another option that would free up significant money for them to make FA additions, though he isn't really a TOR pitcher anymore. Honestly, Bassitt maybe a better option for 1 year than Castillo for potentially 3 years.

Ryan Pepiot and Drew Rasmussen are good options from Tampa. But Tampa is a tough trade partner.

And of course there is Mackenzie Gore if the Nats are good with an intra-division trade.

I think there are plenty of options that make sense, but I just don’t see AA depleting the system, which a lot of these trades would do. Bassitt feels like a very logical fit for what we need both short term and long term. He’s not my first choice, but he’s a sound one.

Which, coincidentally, is also what Enscheff’s partner said about him.

I might just become insufferable around here with a blood relative in the rotation (Gilbert - even though I've never met him).

According to Lindsay Crosby of Braves Today, the Braves had a deal in place with the Brewers for Peralta, with Ritchie as the centerpiece. Milwaukee was reportedly on board, but Peralta wouldn’t agree to an extension. The Braves were only willing to make the trade if an extension was in place, so it ultimately fell apart.

Coming up short again is frustrating, but it makes me wonder if the Braves go all in on another name. If they are willing to move Ritchie, then Alex isn't fucking around.
